Diving through the pools of artistry that laps along the trails of digital landscapes I’ve come across the following works of art. Appreciate them and admire the aesthetic essences found within.
Artist: Alex Boca
Alex has such a wonderful style, something you’d expect on a metal-band’s album cover, maybe like Dio, and how appropriate is it that he’s created works within the Warhammer 40K universe. There is a special group for folks who make Warhammer art, as it is tends to be overtly detailed and full of vibrant dimensionality. Alex has a stacked deck and he’s not here to mess around. Please do give Alex your appreciation!
Chaos Champion
One of the more fantastical WH40k artworks that I’ve seen; such intense imagery really requires extra effort to deal with, which is normal for artworks that feature an immense layered dimensionality. The champion at the front of the work is so wicked and every aspect of utility has been pushed to the abstract. Knowing that this creature is a demonic killing machine maintains an air of mysteriousness as the ability to wield that giant sword or even move around in that armor has an impossible expression to it. Having the primary subject surrounded by a miasma of other various demonic expressions further enhances the air about which this Champion subsists within, adding another layer of terror to the composition.
Konrad Curze
I’m unsure if this is a particular character that is pivotal to a story arc of some kind, although he sure has that air about him. All of the details and deathly semblances that embellish his armor creates this terrifying aura which is further amplified by his vicious expression. Compositionally the massive eye in the top third of the canvas, which seems to be part of the architecture of the room, really brings forth semblances of picture-in-picture motif and a higher-dimensional expression of some impossibly viewable entity.
Miniature Concept #1
Miniatures are so fun to play with, especially seeing them physically and fully painted. Knowing that this physical object was first just an idea that was given form through a concept art like this, really boggles the mind and gives further nuance to life. I love the fusion of arachnid/insectoid features and brawny animallistic ones; such a create would be truly a sight to see!
Miniature Concept #2
Armour designs are one of my favorite motifs to express in arthood, for there exists a near-infinite depth of what can be expressed. Alex shows off his ability to layer minutia after nuanced form into the hardened body of armour and weapon: the scaled belt hanging over the chausses, jeweled grieves with wings taut, hanging silks give an air of ceremonial semblances, tendrils spread wide on her upper back giving a vestige of authority, all encapsuled by the shape of her twin-blades whose hand-guard resembles the face of an old man. Brilliant stuff!
Artist: Todor Hristov
I’d love to visit Bulgaria some day, for a place that can develop an artist such as Todor must be wonderful. Hristov has a strong skill set than he expresses through fantastical landscapes and characters from the Warcraft universe. Give him some of your love and appreciation!
Warrior
I see this interlaced dichotomy of organic forms, in the armour, encased by golden geometrical shapes that bulk up and define the regal aura of the warrior; the fluffy tufts placed under certain areas and the large cape also up-the-ante’ even more so. The rooted stance and stalwart facial expression makes the character ready for anything without much exhaustion involved. How all these pieces fit together really makes this a strong piece that stands out to me, especially on the short background with green energies exploding out of cracked crags.
Starcaller Meteoria
I dig the background in this one more so than the Warrior; the warped and spiked forms bring a long of passive-movement and violent energy, not to mention the variation in depth that adds a lot to the overall composition. Todor really goes all out on his armour and weapons, which really stand out in this work. The equipment really has a weighted feeling to it, with the minute details bringing it all to life with a semblance of cohesive unity. Corny and dramatic as Warcraft can be, Its nice seeing its aesthetic in this particular style.
Shore
I was taken aback by Todor’s environmental works, that I had to include a few of them. He has loads of these various environments, all of which hae a great expression to them. The composition is really something, with the rocks feeling quite natural and the lighting having a somber mood to it that feels like a mid-day rain that isn’t yet ready to fall. This looks like something you might see around the Mediterranean.
The Wind Queens’ Palace
Holy smokes what a composition. All that depth and detail really unifies all the subject matter together in a wondrous fashion. The story played out in this is quite nice, giving enough room to mystify the viewer. I’m a sucker for floating islands, as anything that defies conventional physics gets my imagination going. Todor really grasps the acumen to fully realize the dimensionality of a work, giving it the right amount of detail and rendering to fulfill the desired effect. This would make for a fun D&D setting.
