JRCoffronIII: Artist Insight & Appreciation
Artists’ Gallery
A primary focus on creatures, horror, psychological elements and the depth & density of gritty atmospheres. Such a bevy of artworks to rile through, you can spend hours enjoying them. Overall JRCoffron has immense technique for developing his creatures and landscapes and he expresses this divinely within the examples below.
The creatures stand out the most to me in this work. The larger creature has a wonderful amount of detail on it, really giving it excellent dimensionality and textures; Hiding part of its body under the rocks forces one to imagine what it’s tail or hind-end may look like. JRCoffron has an eye for literally fleshing out his characters and creatures. Small creatures may not have a larger surface to build upon or be able to fill the canvas much, however JRC shows off the potential that a little critter has and these fearless guy’s are part of the primary action in the scene. Developing a scene with action and some semblance of story elements gives the artwork less of a static and studious purpose to it. I could imagine this scene out of a fantasy book of some kind, if anything it inspires such visions!
Look at those stairs, they’re so crisp and really display the lighting! The space in this piece has a nice depth and atmosphere to it; it really feels lived in and alive. JCR has a great sense for developing movement and reducing any static elements, it really adds to the composition and semblance of the work. I love conjurers like this mixing things at an altar of sorts; the float eye on the right and demonic visage to the left build up the sort of horrific darkness associated with the idea of a conjurer. Very well done :D
Filling up nearly the entire canvas, this work really expresses the power of these creatures. I like the symbolism in this work, let me see if I can explain it well enough: the giant crocodile-esque creature is an expression of the ‘body’, filled to the brim with ferocity as self-evident within its form, while the eye-ball creature is the ‘mind’ due to it’s frail form and large eye. If you look at the top left, the small significance of light illuminates the cavern just enough to see the architectural pillars in the background; the blue in the fog aids with bringing out the depth of the work.
Please give your warm appreciation to JCR, his gallery is ripe with wonderful works that deserve your attention.
