Last month, my neighbor Mr. Pro Painter told me there was an event during May, at Maracay City in commemoration of the " International Book Day", with an open contest that would receive works done by any artist/illustrator, as long as those were done in postcard size, and were related to the special date.

So he offered to me, in the case I would like to participate, the chance to send my postcard with those made by his students in the same package he would send; he encouraged me to try, explaining to me what the contest was about and the good advantages that we shouldn’t let go from this kind of occasions.

"To be, or to not be Ridiculous?, that is the question."

A small detail was that I just counted with 4 days to complete my postcard, before he needed to close the package and send it.

I didn’t have a single clue of what I was going to do, all I was sure about was that I needed to include a book, but to figure out the main concept that I wished to illustrate took me the first two days, and at this point I wasn’t sure if I would manage to create something decent on time...

But as the Creative Goddess is benevolent and doesn’t let alone the creative artist needing rescue, a pretty and simple idea came to me, that I loved from ears to little paws.

The postcard was ready on time, the night before the package was meant to be sent, and then, there was only waiting left...

On April 13th, I received an e-mail with the following message:

"Through this acknowledgment, I affirm to had received your postcard with the theme "The Book" ...

The event is scheduled to be inaugurated on Sunday May 6th, at 11 in the morning. At IUTAR headquarters. Final Avda. 19 de Abril. Plaza San Juan, Maracay.

At the end, I wasn’t completely sure about how the concept I wanted to portray ended, I didn’t like it, something was off. So I changed it, after asking Mr. Jose for reviews and advices.

I must tell you that, next day, Mr. Jose (very indignant, and with said indignation I made him company) tells me that a person contacted him, telling him that he shouldn’t send the postcards’ pack that day, he could wait and that he had more time to recollect/work on the postcards.

I share with you some of the pictures of that morning, when he gave the postcard back to me to fix some details that it was lacking: There was part of the hair that I didn’t inked on the rush. You can compare the differences between those images and the final ones above.
