Being an artist is to be a man or a woman with a mission and above all an urge to communicate one’s view and passion to others. An artist can only define himself and get the attention of fans when he can stand out of the crowd. Art is like beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Livio de Marchi is an artist who does not seek global attention or fame but he has the magical qualities that make him a great and true artist. He may not be a household name but in the circle of the artistic community, he is a reference treated with the utmost admiration and respect.
Unlike most of his colleagues, he does not seek his art in traditional painting or sculpture; he is, in fact, a wood carver. He is a creator of a wooden world; everything he makes, fabricated out of wood, until the absurd.

The description of woodcarver is in most languages the equivalent of boring, old-fashioned and even deadly. I can assure you that the works of Livio de Marchi are full of life and captivating. There are those artists who think outside of the box, passionate people who channel all their emotions, dreams and hopes in a transcendence to their art objects. To see the artworks of Livio de Marchi is to understand them, it is a way to experience the soul of the artist.

Biography

De Marchi was born in the glorious city of Venice where he still lives and works in his wood carvings studio with the magical name: ‘Accademia di Belle Arti’.

His rich career started there at a very young age where his talent emerged for all to see. He understands the art of giving raw materials such as wood a second life and mold them to new wonderful objects with a certain Italian flair that is so distinctive for the traditions. His work is not only surprising but also masterpieces in detail.

He started with the beautiful southern marble, later evolved to bronze and ended up with wood as his partner in arts. Wood will always be his favorite material because it still has a living factor, a dimension he cannot find in other materials.

His Studio

Since he has his own studio, there are no more limits to his incredible phantasy and productivity. Because of his unique insights into the material, he is able to create a wonderful world that no one else has ever visited, a place that is so unthinkable that the magic is simply taking over. His artistic success is now a never-ending rollercoaster. Livio de Marchi hosted expositions in Los Angeles, Rome, Paris, Zürich, Düsseldorf, London, Milano and many other cities in the world. He was the object of articles in prestigious art magazines such as Interior Design, Cas Vogue, Decoration, and Hauser. Countless television crews already brought him to well-deserved attention.

Livio de Marchi only uses very old traditional tools and a wooden hammer; most of his tools are from 1964 and they are omnipresent in his studio.

Most Famous Art Pieces

Livio de Marchi realized a kind of origami wooden hat in 1985 and this piece is probably his most well-known art. In 1986, he made a gigantic floatable women shoe. He gave Japan a gigantic wooden dove, but his most popular work is the wooden Jaguar sports car.

His strong point is the creation of objects that you totally do not expect in wood. Nobody will, for instance, expect a wooden tablecloth, or wooden clothes or a wooden car. If it exists, Livio de Marchi can reproduce it in wood as if it functions, some of the items do function like the original item. Today his work has a prominent place in numerous museums

Consideration

The artist was able to evolve random woodcarving into a magnificent universe where all seems possible. It gives the man credit that he stays very humble and down to earth. He still attributed more importance to his art than to what others think.

His story is a tale of a very personal dream, a story that shows us in everything you can find beauty and splendor if you look at it with an open mind.

The man and his art are one of an absolutely fascinating world. Affascinaanti!
