So this is one of the newest projects I did, and I LOVE some of the technique that went into it, so I'm going to share it with you guys
So for this,i just bought a $2.77 plaque at walmart for the actual piece itself, then bought two colors of paint, mixed them, and painted the whole thing.
I let the paint dry thoroughly, then sandpapered it. It seems backwards right? To paint something then sandpaper it? But that's how you get that cool distressed effect! Don't focus too too much on one area and be random, don't try too hard or you will be able to tell in your work.
After the sandpapering, (not sure if that's a word, but it is now (; ) mod podge it all over. (as explained in a previous post, this gives it a smoother finish to write on, and prevents paint pen clogging). I just used a font from online and looked at it as reference to make the initials with a gold fine tipped paint pen (walmart).
Now here comes the interesting part, I bought a set of blackish bronze hooks (also walmart) to use on it, but it wasn't really the color she was going for, so I used this amazing gold paste (hobby lobby clearance, woot woot) and all it takes is a tiny tiny bit rubbed on with my finger and viola!!
Antique gold hooks! The look turned out to be just what she wanted, and I couldn't have been happier! This one was easy and only took me a few hours(: as always MODPODGE when you're done, to seal it! If you're going for the distressed look I suggest matte finish!!
Much love
