Excursion into the Mind of a Decalcomaniac

BOGOMIL RISING

Decalcomania definition in Wikipedia: it does mention the Surrealists, and this is what my work is largely based on. Some other definitions one finds on the internet restrict it to something similar to Rohrschach.

I had long since been fascinated by the mastery of Max Ernst, and one of his works I stand in awe of is Europe after the Rain. When I founded the website Visionary Art Hall of Fame, one of the first artists featured was MAX ERNST

This should explain where I am coming from. Decalcomania is closely associated with my alter-ego of Bogomil, which I explained in my 1982 essay I wrote for my solo exhibition that year: BOGOMIL'S UNIVERSE

Here are a few examples of my Decalcomania Paintings:

I also created digital work, based on details from my artwork, or from Decalcomania images I created specifically for that purpose. This is the subject of my next post: THE DECALCOMANIAC GOING DIGITAL

You have a great variety of painting techniques- and it was interesting reading the link as you didn't create the textures in the way that I thought you had!
I often find my mind wandering through parallel universes, some are very fantastical, and others darkly dystopian.

thank you kindly - I had used this and similar processes off and on over the years. In one approach I even have acrylic ink on plastic patterns saved which I would use like collage as part of a painting: stick the acrylic side down with medium, then when dry, moisten the area with water and peel away the plastic. If you look at Caspar and his Props again - this is what I did on there. Several different ones, contours cut out with an X-ACTO Knive.

I applied decalcomania in some of my earlier works. It is still in the bag of tricks if I need it. ;-)

yeah, the more tricks, the better. At the least, it is a start to get the juices flowing.
