Water Lily Print - Phase One: Inspiration and Sketches

in art •  8 years ago  (edited)

I've started to do some sketches for a new print I have in mind. Recently I went to Kew Gardens (you can read about how much I loved it here) and one of my favourite things there was Waterlily House. It's a greenhouse with a pond containing water lilies as you might have guessed. The pond was lovely with all its different kinds of lilies and other water plants.

I took a lot of photographs, that now all neatly sit in a folder in anticipation of being used as inspiration. I'll be using them as a reference throughout developing this print.

Lately, I've been working directly in Illustrator a lot and it has been great for improving my skills, but I want to do some more pencil sketching and research before moving over to the digital realm this time.

I'm hoping to show the process of developing the pattern over a series of posts from the sketching stage to the digitalization of motifs and the final result in the form of a repeating print.
