Henna Art - An Ancient Body Art Form (My Henna Art)

in art •  7 years ago

Hey guys! What’s up?

Today I am going to introduce you to henna art which is called “Mehndi” in India. Henna art is an ancient form of body art that the women of India wear in various rituals and occasions throughout the year. This art is mainly done on the hands and the feet.

It has been in application in India for centuries but recently, it is becoming more and more popular throughout the world as a form of body art and is often called henna tattoos.

Like other tattoos, henna art has endless designs but unlike tattoos, these are only temporary lasting for around 10-15 days since it is totally natural, made from a plant. The leaves of this plant are ground into a fine powder, which is then used to make a paste by mixing with water and is then applied in various designs.

It is then left for some hours and then the dried out paste is removed which leaves a reddish-brown colour and this lasts for around two weeks. Today I am going to share photos of the henna art that I applied on my hand.

Here it is.

love it! how did you learn the prints and technique? I feel like the most challenging part is to accurately match the design with your non dominant hand haha I struggle with self manicure all the time, so I can only imagine the patience yo need for a larger area 😂

I have been doing this since my childhood days. Still, I am not perfect. I have put it on my left hand using my right hand.

Beautiful hand art, @travel-cuisine
You are beautiful also. :)

Thankyou :)

Lovely! I love Mehndi, I wish I could get high quality cones more often. Thanks for sharing!

you can make your own too with the help of mehndi powder

Honestly I hate this, and tattoos aswell, Girls look horrible with tattoed arms, and guys look just like they got out of jail.
Even beautifull flowers drawn on a girls arms will make them look like snakes from the right distance, and I fucking hate snakes. Who in their right mind would want to get hugged by them, yuck.
