Snapper!

Hey steemers, here is a quick little watercolor doodle of a little monster named Snapper. The design is from a series of creatures I've called "Wild Youth."

I had a lot of fun playing with the shapes on this one. Square vs round shapes, and then long horns to help break up the silhouette. I used a .05 Micron pen to sketch in the inkwork, and then colored it using a Windsor watercolor kit. Made for a lovely afternoon outing to a local coffee shop.

That's a prickly looking monster. I like that he's almost symmetrical but that his eyes, nostrils, teeth, eye lashes, horns? are all slightly mismatched. I think it helps him look a little more menacing!

haha yeah I was trying to give him a "tweaky" unpredictable feel. Subtle asymmetry can be a powerful tool to give a little extra life to a character imo.

It works!

This is really cool. Reminds me of a 90s grunge band's album artwork I used to love as a kid (ok, I still spin their music every now and then), a band called Tumbleweed. They had great cover art, and really awesome booklets inside the cd cases with heaps of cool creations. You just don't get that in this age of digital everything.

Yeah you really don't. Artwork for physical media is all but extinct at this point. I remember how rich and detailed video game instruction booklets use to be too. Would be cool to get a resurgence of this stuff but it just doesn't look like the demand is there.

Nice art, i like your painted

Thanks!

Where do you buy your art supplies?

Local art stores! I think there is a blick near me...

I love watercolours and the most of all I like to draw with watercolour pencils. Because they allow details

Oh interesting! I've always found it quiet difficult to do detail work with watercolor...

They are easy to work with. Like usual colour pencils and after you finish you use the tiniest brush and you dissolve the colours with water 😉. Works like a charm.

Nice~!
