Calanna: “Meeting with the Emigrants” painting competition, winners

On Saturday 17 September 2022, the painting contest “Meeting with the Emigrants“ 14th ed. Took place in Calanna. organized by the Pro Loco Calanna, in collaboration with the Dedalo Association and the Alessandrite Association, sponsored by the Municipality of Calanna, curator by Dr. Silvana Marrapodi, artistic direction geom. Pietro Morena, technical direction prof.ssa Laura Giovine.

The competition was divided into two sections: a meditated painting section with the theme "Italians and cars, from their origins to today", and an impromptu painting section entitled "Me in Calanna, wrapped in nature and welcomed in the village".

The numerous participants fought with brush strokes distributed throughout the territory of the Municipality of Calanna, thus animating a mild Saturday in the village. Multiple onlookers and tourists approached the painters, asking questions and insights on the work in progress.

The exhibition, inaugurated in the evening, was a huge success, attracting a copious influx of public, particularly interested in art.

During the inauguration, the illustrious personalities of the Municipality of Calanna, the mayor Dr. Domenico Romeo and the parish priest Don Jonh Leula, showed admiration for the extraordinary organization and perseverance, with which the Pro Loco for 14 years, helped in the last 3 by the Dedalo and Alessandrite Associations, succeeds every year in attracting new artists and also very young , in the Municipality of Calanna, for a competition that takes on a central role in the maxi event “Calanna to live forever”. In particular, the painting competition was the only event held every year, despite the provisions for the containment of the Coronavirus Pandemic in recent years.

Following the attention was married in the square in front of the Former Middle School of Villamesa, thanks to the splendid music played and sung by the Kalavrìa group, which entertained the public with Calabrian folk songs and dances.

During the concert the winners were awarded: Chiara Giulia D'Angelo, Antonio Viscardi and Simona Treccosti for the meditated section, Ercole Fortebraccio, Angela Panetta and Gregorio Procopio for the impromptu section.

At the end of the concert, the Maria SS. dell'Annunziata honored the audience with splendid fireworks, which amazed the eyes of the spectators, thus concluding the splendid day in Calanna.
