The Indonesian government is planning to register all the islands belonging to themselves and their names. According to the BBC , this is a step to protect the islands and the sea surrounding the island.
It is estimated that Indonesia owns more than 17,500 islands, of which 8,000 are inhabited. During the August meeting with the United Nations, the government expects to add new islands to the list.
Plan listing the current list is still not completed. Newsweek says the reason is that some islands need more days to reach. When approached, residents of the island may disagree with the name given to the island, depending on the name of the traditional or wilderness. However, as a rule, if two local residents agree, that name will officially be recognized.
