Sunny city- Watercolor + step by step process

in art •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello, friends! I continue to pass a mini course on urban watercolor landscape. Today I will show you my picture, which I finished a few days ago.

My daughter and I argue - in the picture the sunset or the sunrise? I painted, I thought it was sunset, but my daughter says it's sunrise. Why? Because at sunset the sky is more pink! And also in my drawing few people. She thinks it's early morning...well, logical...

What do you think?

During this mini-course I learned how to draw architecture in perspective. It's very exciting. I outlined liniyu the horizon and said to point. To this point should converge all parallel lines of buildings. There are two dots in the picture. One is where the sun is bright. The second to the left of the picture. I like that I know these rules, and my buildings are smooth and properly distant to the horizon.

I also like this work because I now know how to draw the bright sun.

I drew a sketch.

The next steps were difficult. I paint a gradient from the light (bright sun) to the dark sides of the buildings. It's really hard for a beginner watercolorist. I wanted to erase mistakes and cry. The paint did not go evenly, as I wanted.

If you notice, my whole drawing consists of sectors that converge to the sun. This is the road, right and left building. My task was to make uniform gradients paint on all these segments.

The first segment is the road. Gradient from light yellow to brown with purple. I painted the sky pale blue. It is almost not visible in the picture

Here I painted two buildings in the same colors of paint as the road. In the left building added more orange and red tones.

Then add details to the buildings and shadows. I wasn't trying to add much detail. It should only be small accents.

At the last stage, I paint people. The girl who crosses the road. It is illuminated by the sun, so the picture on the other side has a long shadow.

Here is a GIF of the process

I hope you enjoyed my work. Although I am a beginner, but I want to paint better and better with watercolor. And of course I will try to portray the sunlight! I like it very much

The drawing is made on the basis of MK https://doodleandsketch.com/lesson-334

Cheers

So beautiful ! The lighting is glorious and warm, and I love how you argue with your daughter if it was sunrise or sunset :) I think it is sunrise, but surely, it can go either way, hahahaha

The process is also shown wonderfully, and we can get to understand the challenges that you had to overcome :)

Really wonderful painting, @veta-less <3

Congratulations for Curie, as well <3

Glad to see you @veryspider and thank you for your warm and detailed comments )

I love this @veta-less! There's something about the lines that's got me hooked. And I see sunset by the way :) Thank you so much for sharing!

I'm glad you liked my painting )

Классный рисунок! Мне очень нравится цветовая гамма:)

Спасибо! да, мне тоже цвета нравятся) только сложно было градиенты прокладывать )

It's beautiful, even though you struggled a little bit :) The perspective is nearly perfect! I'm looking forward to see your progress in painting :)

Have a nice day!

@delishtreats Thank you for your kind words! I am very pleased to hear that!

Oh and I didn't notice that you argue with your daughter about the sunset/sunrise thing. I think it really depends. Normally I would agree with your daughter as the sunset is really more pinkish but last weekend when I was in Rapperswil and the sun was going down it was really yellow. It's the first time that I've seen sunset like this :)

Yeah, right! I remembered that there are sunsets too. When there are no clouds in the sky and the sun is bright near the horizon :)

Hey @veta-less, I thought that you did really well considering that this is your first try! I think it's a sunrise too because it looks so bright like that the start of a new day. Also I think that your watercolours looked pretty good. I felt like I was standing in the shade! :) Keep it up!

@khimgoh yeah, I'm starting to think it's sanrise, too. The arguments are undeniable-the bright sun and the beginning of a new day. Thanks for the comment )))

Wow!!! Fantastic! Love the smoothness and the scene itself. Great work!

Thanks for the comment! I think the smoothness is still by paper satin!

Practicing perspective is essential, among other things, nice work this one @veta-less :)

Thank you dear @jungwatercolor! I'm up to these lessons did not know where to begin to draw the architecture in the city. At least I feel more confident now :))

It's very important to learn about perspective. Lucky for me I had friends that were architects so they learned me all the basics and some very important staff @veta-less.

Yes, architects are well aware of the perspective, as well as know the anatomy of the human body and how to draw it.
@jungwatercolor are you a professional artist or a hobby?

I totally felt the sunset vibe <333 :) Love your artwork @veta-less!

@thereikiforest Wow, thanks! I am so glad that my work causes feelings and emotions)

Yw, my pleasure :) <333

Fantastic work, I love the stylized person in the foreground!

Thank you! I also like the person in the foreground. She moves so fast.)

@curie Thank you very much for your support!

I have to agree with your daughter. The sun looks paler at sunrise.

With this result, you must be a very good beginner on water colors! I tried it before, it was a mess. I too was a mess. 😃 And yes, the challenge with water colors is that you can not erase once it is there. You can put a different shade but that may cause a totally unexpected effect. But again, you did great on this one!

How big is this painting?

Yes, watercolor is something that exists in itself and flows wherever it wants :) Yes, I think it's morning) my picture is about A4 format

A4 is fairly big for a starter. How long did it take you to finish this?

Such a beautiful artwork, @veta-less! I adore your use of shadows, it really makes it feel like a sunset scene! Very good! :-D

@trincowski Thanks for the comment! It's important to me because I'm not sure if this picture is good or not...

I think it's really cool! Great work! :-D

On other news, I'll be in Moscow next month. What clothes should I wear? And keep in mind it's the first time I'll be facing negative temperatures in my life...

Thanks for the support! You need a warm jacket, I already wrote it to you: P

Thanks. But what about boots? I wear snickers all year long. Will they be enough?

Oh, no! need autumn shoes..

This one is amazing, Veta. I really like that this image evokes me a feeling of the great masters. The simplicity of the figure and building, and especially dat light and shadow <3333.

Excellent artwork, well done. Congratulations for your curie vote =).

@scrawly thank you! I doubted this picture, and I wasn't sure if it was a good picture or not. I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. But after Curie's support and good comments, I believed that my work evokes emotions and feelings. That's great!

@c-squared Thank you for your support!

Fabulous piece of art and lovely process! I really enjoy your style of linework and how you manipulated the colors. :)

I'm glad you liked my painting! Thanks for the comment)

Hello @veta-less congratulations for such a spectacular job. I really liked it a lot. especially the gif, it is magical for me because it is as if I saw a sunset done step by step. Imagine: God makes sunsets like that? ... love your work. congratulations for the curie vote

Oh, great comment! Thank you very much, I'm so glad that my picture can cause feelings.

Another incredible job, I feel like I'm a fan of your art, it's really beautiful what you do in watercolors.
You brought me many memories with your painting because as a child I was taught to do some architectures in the same way as you, using points and lines, it is amazing what can be achieved with them, so thank you for showing us. Fascinating sunset, a big hug @veta-less

Oh, I'm so glad my painting brought back memories! This is great! I'm really very pleased! Thank you!

It does seems like sunrise to me, usually I find that sunrise sun is really shinning!

I think you're right ) Thanks for the comment!

Most welcome!

Отличная работа снимаю шляпу

После ваших акварелей? Да вы что! Это у вас уровень к которому мне нужно стремиться. Спасибо вам :)

This is quite beautiful. Watercolor paintings can be a pain in the ass most time. So for you to create this, you really doing great. My regards to your daughter

Oh, this painting has also been upsetting to me in the making..I always want it to be better than it is in real life.

I have tried watercolour and have failed horribly. I definitely would not have the courage to post it on steemit.
I love the result of your hardwork though. I must say you did a good job on this piece. I would also have to agree with your daughter, it looks like sunrise to me.

Congrats on your curie upvote, it is well deserving too!

Thank you! I think you need to try watercolor again. The more you try, the better it turns out - so they say ))

@veta-less, congratulation on your curie vote after your 11 exercise of watercolor. And you finally drew few watercolor painting and it looks great. I especially like the Chinese painting on tinted paper. Your sketch was so neat and clean. You must be a very neat person. I must agree with your daughter, it should be a sunrise, because the sun is brighter and not an orange color LOL. Thank you for showing us the stages on how you complete your drawing. Are you start to attend drawing class now?

@oliviackl Thanks for the comment! Wow, you remember my 11 exercise) Now I am learning on online lessons. I'm looking for something I like. It was a mini-course of watercolor urban landscape of 4 video lessons. Now I think that I will start reading the next book on watercolors and perform exercises on it.And my works in the style of Chinese painting are either old pictures when I went to courses with a Chinese teacher, or what I already draw myself at home

@veta-less,

Wow, you remember my 11 exercise

Of course i still remember that 11 exercises. It left a deep impression to me.

Wow, whatever you did. I could see the improvement in your watercolor painting. I hope I have your determination on learn something you like.
The chinese painting was very great and like it very much.

It is beautiful @veta-less! I like it! Thank you for showing us each step. I like the perspective in the architecture drawing and the gradient colours that you add layer by layer to produce the art.

Thank you very much for your comment! I'm glad you liked my picture! Yes, I love watching step-by-step picture creation too )

A happy week to you @veta-less! :)

Mission accomplished. It's minimal =)

Thanks!

Beautiful painting, you created a nice perspective of a city with this triangular shape building on the corner , the light source in center throwing the ray that forcing objects to drop their shadows and you captured the shadow perfectly. Like the colors, warm sunset in the city :)

@stef1 Thank you! I'm glad to hear such words, because I'm just a beginner watercolorist and I'm in the process of learning)

howdy from Texas veta-less! well as a non-painter this is so interesting to see your process and to then enjoy the finished product. I think it's a sunrise because of few people.
The colors are so welcoming and I like all the shadows. This is a fine piece of art! Do you do other style of painting or mostly urban scenes?

Hi @janton ! I'm glad you liked my painting. I also like the colors and their combinations. I do Chinese painting. Or rather, engaged a few years ago. I try watercolor myself...I have several works, but I like watercolor city landscape and I would like to achieve perfection in this.

well veta-less you are very gifted in that genre so great job!
