A horror film "A Quiet place" could become part of a franchise "Cloverfield". It was in this capacity that the director and screenwriter John Krasinsky offered his studio, but there he was dissuaded and rightly done. As the original story of the film is perceived much better. Original - the keyword. The novelty lacks a conservative horror genre, so even one new thought allows the film to stand out.
According to the story throughout the planet, people are killed by aggressive and invulnerable monsters. Their hearing is very sensitive and they attack everything that makes a little sound. A family of ordinary Americans hides from monsters in a provincial house. Here, conversations and any loud sounds are forbidden, but when there are three small children in the family, it is not easy to observe silence.
The idea with the main characters that behave quietly is not new. Not so long ago something similar happened in the thriller "Do not breathe", but there everything was limited to one house of the blind veteran. In the tape "A Quiet Place" danger awaits everywhere, which allows Krasinski to create a whole world with unusual rules. For example: they always walk barefoot to avoid making noise, the walls are covered with cushions for soundproofing, and the signals are fed with bonfires and colored garlands. Fortunately for people, monsters are blind.
The creators of the film use silence and sound, as the main expressive means. Heroes communicate only by gestures that translate subtitles, which perfectly creates a tense atmosphere. The director does not use the genre-specific moments of surprise with loud screamers. In this movie, any noise, even quiet, scares better than any scream. Such a feeling is created from the very beginning, sound is a danger.
Only two times the characters conduct dialogues aloud and these are the weakest episodes of the film, in which it resembles a melodrama. When the characters communicate silently, they again become real. The family turned out to be convincing also because it is really a family. The father was played by the director himself, and his mother's mother Emily Blunt, in the role of their deaf daughter, a truly deaf-mute actress. Each character was allowed to open and everyone at least once saved another, so they do not seem to be cannon fodder for eating monsters.
The monsters at first show us a glimpse and at a distance, like a lightning-fast threat that appears, kills and disappears. But in the end they will let them see them properly and even understand something about their biology. However, it is difficult to imagine that these creatures were considered invulnerable and people could not cope with them for so long. You can understand why the creators "Cloverfield" did not want to show their creatures so weak.
Watch the movie definitely worth it, in particular to fans of the horror genre, from me the score will be 6 out of 10.
Look only the best! ;)
Considering the reason I do not go to see movies at theaters is the volume overwhelms me. This might be a movie I could actually go see! Prefer quiet to noisy situations.
