I draw every Friday, and am trying to improve my 2d artwork.
While I'm an accomplished visual effects artist, (see my sin city work here - i was the virtual set creator for this shot)

I'm just starting out as a 2d artist.
Drawing hands is said to be one of the hardest things to do - so what do you think?
i titled it - "helping hands".
Its done entirely with pencils and inside 1 hour.
I used my friends hand as reference - i hope he didn't mind that i shook his hand like 15 times =)
hope you like it, i'll post a few more soon
pete
Looks good! I wish I had an artist's touch like yourself. Some things are best left to others though :)
Look forward to more as you work towards improving, great start!

Hi Peter, I am also an entertainment pro. I was a concept designer and illustrator, and I taught at Gnomon in Hollywood. Are you working in L.A.?
The drawing is good. It reads like hands so that's a good start. So what is your goal for your work? Is it for fun or are you interested in eventually doing professional work?
I learned drawing hands by drawing my own (left) hand and using a mirror to simulate drawing my right hand. I also copied the drawings of Burne Hogarth. He has a wonderful book on hands (and figures and faces) that features a cool construction that simplifies the hands. And simplification is the key.
A hand, like any thing can be broken down into simple forms. So I believe the first step to drawing something complex 'realistically' is to first see it and describe it as simple forms. For example, the palm can be described as a rectangular cube and the fingers can be simplified into tapering cylinders.
Hope that makes sense :)
Andrew Loomis also wrote a series of books on drawings. HIs approach to hands, especially the way he simplifies is excellent. Many illustrators today (especially in Los Angeles) still use Loomis' methods.
Hope that helps. Glad to see other artists here. I teach drawing myself and have some instructional material online. I can send you links if you are interested or visit my profile :)

That makes alot of sense - simple shapes to guide the final form =)
While my 3d work is professional level, I find doing 2d relaxing and helps me reign in my concept of proportions. It also helps me with my sketching ability. I find 2d sketching and mock up for a 3d shot helps me to block out the shots. I used to work on feature films, unfortunately my program lightwave 3d kinda of isn't used much in film anymore (only a handful of places now). So i'm using my 3d skillset to create illustrations for a ebook i wrote. I'm interested in the instructional material, thanks for offering. I'll be sure to follow you. =) By the way - i'm really close to gnomen and usually goto the freebie stuff - like the substance days they just had - it was awesome - (i have substance painter)
I've worked on movies like red planet, sin city, welcome to mooseport and a bunch of sci fi channel stuff.
Every friday i do 1 hour of drawing at a place near macarther park. Artist challange group - kinda fun.

depending on a few different factors like; length, subject matter, etc. You may be able to post your ebook here, in installments. Having it stored in the steem blockchain would also be proof of work, your work, like a time stamp showing you were the originator.
If you include images, illustration, etc, I am sure the content would get the attention of the important voters.

I DO like it - very much. You might enjoy Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Very helpful with learning to draw...
