Fellow Steemians, I wanted to share some 3D rendering images (in progress) based on the modeling done for STEEMTOWN. The building and landscape geometry is being modeled in 3D using the software “Rhinoceros.” Below are screen-shots that highlight progress modeling from different angles and phases of rendering. There’s is much more building happening behind the scenes and the support from you all has been incredible! Stay tuned for more additions to the Town over the next week...
In the image above and below, you can see @macksby's "Magi" building (highlighted in orange) peeking over the roof-line of @digit's gas station and @jdbry's Church.
These are all test renderings to experiment with basic shading and environment lighting.
The Townscape is getting bigger! Here’s a sequence of images looking at various shading and linework from a isometric (aerial) perspective…
What’s STEEMTOWN?
STEEMTOWN is an ongoing community art project powered through your comments and ideas. It’s an experimental game of city-making, a digital Madurodam, where my role is the builder and yours is the planner and curator. Each week, a new layer of buildings will be added to the Town. Your photographs, quotes, stories and feedback are the raw materials that drive construction for each new layer. For more, here is a link to the introductory post of STEEMTOWN and the project mission.
An Exercise in Building Community
Through this project - I hope to engage in a broader dialogue with fellow Steemians about their own sense of place and placemaking. These types of game-structured conversations are a fascinating way of learning more about what a person defines as his or her “community.” It’s a way of us connecting to one another through the geographies we are deeply tied to and knowledgeable of. In a world of links, likes, upvotes and IP addresses, it’s exciting to find ways of bridging the digital divide and connecting with those on the other side of the screen.
Stay tuned for Phase 3 of STEEMTOWN...
These look really cool. Could we one day be able to stroll around Steemtown in VR?

If I had access to obj files I could work a bit on doing something like a VR world.

YES. So now you're getting into a big hope of this Steemtown project... that folks would be able to "fork" their own basefile and do some modeling / visualization of their own. Anyway, I'll be prepping the OBJ file for public use shortly... any suggestions for sharing it? Do you think I could share a file like this on Github?

I think a Github project would work nicely - that way other documentation or code could be shared too as it is developed.

Good stuff, I'll look into setting this up! Thanks for the great feedback @lightsplasher... I'll message you once it's up and running. Looking forward to experimenting / collaborating with you and the Steemit public.
