These days, especially in the last 15 years or so, it seems that the influence of HP Lovecraft is everywhere. I'm not complaining - I'm a big fan of his works (along with the collaborators such as CA Smith). It is good to see Lovecraftian influence as much a part of modern fantasy as dragons and elves. That is why I really like the Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea setting in that it blends traditional and pulp fantasy (but heavy on the pulp side). Adventures are both epic and very dangerous. There is no guarantee of sucess in Hyperborea. However, the rewards are great (and the gratitude of just making it out alive are often great).
