Re Learning Blender - Strange solutions that solve problems

My first exercise done on my own computer (after an odyssey to get a team ready)

After thinking for a long time and looking for a viable way to build a computer capable of meeting the minimum hardware requirements to run Blender, in the absence of an income that would cover something beyond the basic food of my home, I began to use my experience and ingenuity to try to solve the situation.

Some time ago my older brother brought me the graphics card that had the computer installed that I gave him to do his graphic design work, when he brought it to me with the situation that the drivers for it were not installed.

I immediately proceeded to try to install that graphics card in my windows 7 computer (an NVIDIA GT610) with the same result. “The driver installer indicated that there was no hardware for the software to install.

In short, the driver did not detect the existence of the graphics card in my pc. Although it sent video output correctly and it worked with the generic drivers that Windows installs, there was no 3D acceleration, making it impossible to use Blender on that computer.

Last time like this with that graphics card stored in the drawer of oblivion. Until I did my experiment at my friend Inu-Jim's house that his PC has exactly the same working graphics card installed.

As his card is exactly the same model and brand as mine, I decided to embark with the consultation and approval of my friend in the task of doing experiments to see if he really had no remedy for my apparently damaged graphics card.

Inu-Jim has dual boot on his PC since he keeps Windows 7 and Windows 10 installed and in use and the card is installed and configured in both operating systems.

Agujero Negro 7.png

To my joy (and also disappointment) it worked perfectly on Windows 10 but didn't work at all on Windows 7 (my computer was running Windows 7 at the time).

Agujero Negro 8.png

Then I remembered that Blender comes from free software and the GNU / LINUX community, and already in the past I had had surprising experiences using Linux Ubuntu for many years on two occasions.

Agujero Negro 9.png

Among the surprises that I experienced in my daily use of Ubuntu on a Windows XP / Ubuntu 10.04 dual-boot PC was the fact that on two occasions due to electrical problems in the area my graphics card burned, making it impossible for Windows XP to run any something that requires hardware 3D graphics acceleration.

Agujero Negro 10.png

Meanwhile in Ubuntu 10.04 the graphics card continued to work as if nothing (the graphics card at that time was an NVIDIA GEFORCE 6200 of 256Megas of VRAM) in Linux everything continued to work perfectly, I had activated all the options to the maximum of the revolutionary COMPIZ-FUSION the famous CUBICO 3D Linux desktop that Microsoft has never been able to imitate since Windows Vista. Some conspiracies assure that the move from GTK 2.0 to GTK 3.0.

Agujero Negro 11.png

It was a move by Microsoft infiltrating agents to through this change of dependencies disable the operation of the so famous desktop theme with 3D effects that even today 12 years later Windows still does not have .

Agujero Negro 12.png

The same scenario was repeated again 2 years later, the Linux Ubuntu 10.04 version was of extended support LTS to 2 years and I did not want to get rid of such wonderful Compiz effects (Jelly windows and that burned on fire when you closed them, or they folded up like a paper plane and hid in the taskbar when you minimized "Windows could never do that in any of its versions even today.")

Agujero Negro 13.png

On that occasion it was the same NVIDIA GEFORCE 6200 but with 512Megas of VRAM, and exactly the same phenomenon happened to me, in Windows 7 my tube graphics card did not work until I eliminated the transparencies of the windows in the windows theme.

Agujero Negro 14.png

While in Linux everything continued to work perfectly until 6 months after the failure! When it finally stopped working completely.

Agujero Negro 15.png

So I decided to repeat the experience for the 3rd time and installed Linux Xubuntu 20.04LTS and after updating the distribution I proceeded to install Blender. And Voalá everything worked fine as I suspected with my NVIDIA GFORCE GT610 with 512Megas of VRAM.

Agujero Negro 16.png

The faults that the card gave me with Blender manifested mainly when it lasted more than a few seconds displaying something like materials and textures in Material Preview mode or Render if it had the new EEVEE as another render.

Agujero Negro 17.png

Whenever I used a virtualization that used EEVEE in the preview or render, linux crashed. As long as I rendered in CYCLES or used the preview with the asset there were no problems.

I hope this Anecdote is useful to those who are in a similar situation to mine, this team in that state was my faithful workhorse for quite some time until its recent and sudden end.
