John Berger Dies at 90...

"The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied … but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing.”

A quote by much quoted John Berger, who recently passed away at the age of 90 years . He was one of the most influential writers, visionaries and art critics of our time. Even John Kennedy at the time said that if the world can not help the poor they also will not be able to help the rich. Being a visionary artist, John Berger could see beyond the superficial in life and art.

His quote influenced the UN to take seriously poverty in the world as the number one issue to be dealt eliminated in 2000.

He wrote a book in 1972, WAYS OF SEEING that later was turned into a television series. It is now perceived to be a key element of British Arts Education. How you see you the world is how you live.
