#WHATISARTIFICIALINTELLIGENCE?

When the industrial revolution started back in the 1760’s humans feared that the machines have taken over their jobs, financial freedom and labor force. People remained skeptical about machines and not willing to procure things made out of it. Conflicts and differences lingered several years in getting adjusted with the machine environment. However, as we turn back and reminiscent our history, we thank people for not letting go of machines. Like the industrial revolution, humans stepped into artificial intelligence the next big milestone of human inventions. Many have raised their concerns regarding machines given freedom will yield a lot of privacy concerns, bias, safety, unfairness and other problems. The statement of hawking above can be disproven, if we understand AI clearly and the role it plays in 21st CE.

In simple terms, AI means “the ability of a machine to imitate human behaviour and conventional response patterns: These systems learn through experience with humanlike breadth and surpass human performance on all tasks.” When a specific algorithm programmed and fed inside, it will result in imitating our daily activities as well as lighten humans regular and repetitive work patterns. Like screening resumes, ranking candidates, matching similarities, recommending targets, self-driving trucks, data management, recommendations etc... AI will always compliment humans by delivering effective productivity and reduce failures. Hence humans can be confident in giving work to AI which will provide 100% success without any error or delay. We use AI in our everyday lives unknowingly,

For e.g. more than a billion people wake up every morning and check Facebook which has AI features enabled like birthdays, calendars, real-time personalized targeted ads, chat bots, translations.

“ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS A TOOL NOT A THREAT”- RODNEY BROOKS

These features have helped us to experience Facebook more effectively and sensibly. So let us delve deeper in understanding the role of AI in 21st CE. Here are the three areas that AI will influence in the next few decades.

#ECONOMYANDPOLITICS

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed to school students in 2017 said, “artificial intelligence is the future, not only for Russia but for all humankind, and whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.” It is so true that industries and other sectors such as manufacturing, automobile, architecture, IT, education, drugs and much more are using AI for innovation and advancements. Consequently, leaders, business entrepreneurs, politicians across the globe are trying to fully comprehend the power of AI to infuse it in their geopolitical game. AI can predict storms, vaccine and drug development to reduce the impact of the disease, easing the complexities in the supply chain, monitoring agricultural yields. Better developments will yield a higher contribution to the GDP in return makes them players of superpower competition.

#TRANSPORTATION

Transportation has evolved through several studies, research, trails and refinements over the last century. We moved away from animal-drawn carts, bicycles, steam-based rail networks, aircraft and electric vehicles. Today we are been guided by computers for our commutation eg. Google Maps, Waze etc...

Naveen Joshi opines “Leveraging AI into our daily commute will increase safety, reduce traffic congestion, accidents, less carbon emissions.” When IBM launched OLI a self-driving Micro utility AI vehicle to carry passengers to requested locations, providing suggestions, having conversations, translations, it proved the world that machines perform transportation duties way faster, safe and effective.

“ONCE YOU TRUST S SELF DRIVING CAR WITH YOUR LIFE, YOU PRETTY MUCH WILL TRUST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WITH ANYTHING”- DAVE WATERS

Uber advanced technologies group has completed its first autonomous truck delivery to distribute goods and commodities for long distances. These trucks use AI assist and AI driving mode. These are huge leaps in transportation. AI will soon optimize in five key areas

  1. Ensure safety for all passengers

  2. Monitor and forecast traffic climate on road

  3. Vehicles maintenance

  4. Factual data in real time

  5. Smart travel with comfort

Sensors and cameras on the road collect volumes of real time data which can be managed by AI to predict traffic climate, provide safety, analyze road blockages and resolve within seconds. Though these are only menial tasks, the possibilities of AI in transportation would be limitless in the days to come.

#CHATBOTSANDDATAMANAGEMENT

“Data is the new oil of 21st CE.” Why data plays an important role?

Data lies at the heart of any AI system in how it affects and operates. “AI relies on statistical models that allow them to automatically recognize patterns and make appropriate predictions, recommendations and judgements.” The volumes of data produced everyday by several industries are humungous. Growth of every organization in each industry relies directly on how one harnesses the full potential of data.

For.eg. chatbots in colleges and school websites

Chatbot interacts through an instant messaging, artificially replicating the patterns of human interactions and work independently of a human operator. They simulate human conversation and learn by themselves without programming. Often the interaction happens through the format of text or voice or both. Answers are based on the volume of data, predefined scripts and machine learning.

When AI taken over the organizational data, it helped in four critical areas

#Problem solving ability had tremendously accelerated.

#Analyzing real time data helped greatly in delegating responsibilities meaningfully.

#Integration of recurring data in AI helped refining the data.

#Collective data of all organizations of every industry had made cost-effective workflow, time conservation and better applications for our daily lives.

One of the biggest challenges in creating an enhanced AI system is the restriction to access data. Larger the volumes of high-quality data the lesser biased in judgments and predictions of AI systems. However, access to relevant data is often restricted by particular businesses and organizations due to legal and ethical constraints, especially when it comes to the data regarding people.

#CONCLUSION
“As more and more artificial intelligence is entering into the world, more and more emotional intelligence must enter into leadership.”- Amit Ray,

As we step into this new decade, there will be a drastic change in the way we look at computing, data, transportation, politics and several other areas. People are in a constant mode of integrating, enhancing and advancing in technological accomplishments. When the world begins to realize the power of data and machines, they will unravel the deep mysteries of the world through AI. So definitely AI is playing a very important role in 21st CE
