Hi, creative steemians!

Today, I want to share to you a cool activity I participated. I hope to know more creative steemians so we can also have activities like this.

Young artist and artists-wanna be gathered in Cebu City's Plaza Independencia to have the year-ender artjam. The art jammers were composed of young individuals from different parts of Cebu bringing their art materials and artworks to actively participate in the activities.

I was with my three drafting students namely @reginealayaay, @nathanieltampus, @krishamaealsola, who are also very good in arts- Regine focuses in watercolour painting, Nathaniel on charcoal, Krisha Mae on acrylic and charcoal. The four of us were very excited for this event since this was the first time that we would be with this community of young artists.

The first activity was a live portrait drawing. One of the jammers was selected as the model or the subject. We were hesitant to join because we still had no idea how this would be done. Luckily, our elders granted our requests to just observe how they do it. Here's the picture of the 1st live portrait sketch:

Every partipant was given 20 minutes to initially sketch the subject. As the time started, the young artists got their pencils working. The noisy and calm animals turned into serious artistic beast.

As an observer, I had seen how simple lines and strokes turned into a masterpiece. You could see vividly how dedicated they were to this beautiful craft through their hand movements and how they studied the features, shapes and form of the model. That was indeed a blast start.

After that, one of the elders demonstrated how to use the watercolours. Then he started painting.

Then, we had a chitchat with other members. This time, participants showed their artworks to everyone who wished to see. They could also ask about what materials and tools they used on it, where did they got these art materials, how long did they spend for specific artworks and the like. It was I guess the best part of the jam, to have a communication between an artist to another artist, to ask and be given a rightful answer, to express ones feeling about making a craft and be given with a satisfying answer, and to help one another.

Then, we looked for another subjects for the second live portrait drawing. ( I do portraits, but never tried doing it live... that is just too professional) But, because we got a handful of encouragement from the organizers and other jammers, we decided to participate. Here is my drawing after 10 minutes or so,

FIRST TO DO IT LIVE!

The next activities were just about fun raffle draw and future group plans.

In summary, the artjam was a very good one. It gave a satisfying feeling and a delightful experience that you are with people who understand what you do, know your sacrifices and struggles in your craft, and sincerly give you tips and techniques to develop and do more.

Thank you for reaching this far! I hope you find a delightful experience in reading this.
