THE ART OF MUSIC ROUND 1: MELODIC DRUM SOLO
Hi everyone, and welcome
I'm so glad that the first round for this new contest is jazz music. I want to thank the effort to put out this great way of expression for many musicians hosted by @killerwhale and I hope it will be the very first of many more videos to come.
This week, since @enginewitty just came off a Nat King Cole tip, we're going to go with JAZZ. You can perform a saxophone solo you wrote, do a Kenny G cover, play some Miles Davis on the trumpet, mix down your favorite jams into a beat or even rap over something Jazzy - as long as it has to do with Jazz, it will be an acceptable submission.
The motif of developing melodic drums is quite nice and simple, if you know the melody or certain riff within the song you can add up some of your own personality to the original riff or phrase. It's like a game of question and answer so you can have a conversation between musicians and ideas.
THE INSPIRATION:
Elvin Ray Jones (September 9, 1927 – May 18, 2004) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. From 1960 to 1966 he was a member of the John Coltrane quartet, a celebrated recording phase, appearing on such albums as A Love Supreme.

A pioneer of bebop, he worked in many other styles of music, and is generally considered alongside the most important drummers in history. Known for his highly energetic, flamboyant style and for his showmanship,[1] Krupa was important for his musical contribution to jazz music and his influence extends to this day.

A Love Supreme is a 1965 studio album by American jazz saxophonist and bandleader John Coltrane. He recorded the album with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones in one session on December 9, 1964, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
