Artschool - Negative Space

in artschool •  7 years ago

Big thanks to @beekart for starting this very helpful Artschool - Negative Space tutorials to give people some motivation to help grow and improve their artform. Lessons like these are so incredibly useful as they help any artist, from beginner to expert, as well as help improve your skills with any artistic medium. If you are completely new and want to learn how to draw or even a lifelong artist getting back into it, I'd suggest checking it out!

Here are mine. Quite rough but trying to stick to the point of the exercise, contours of negative space. It's definitely more challenging than it looks but I already felt it's helped me even though I do art all the time I've often forgotten how to 'see' what I'm drawing and often lapse into thinking the lines instead of truly seeing the lines.

Hey mate!
first of .. Awesome work! Thank you for participating! I hope it was fun to do some work like this :D

Now to get a bit constructive!

First thing I'd suggest is to try and be more clean with your lines. For example; I used to try and make blind contours ( the silhouette poses ) in 1 go.. Put your pen down on the paper ( wacom ) and draw the line in 1 go.. Then to even go further from that.. Don't look at the paper.
You will start and finish at completely other points on the paper... BUT.. do this a few more times and your beginning and end point will soon start to match up.

As for the chairs, they look great, i think the cleaner lines comment could also be applied to this one but i personally dont care to much about that.. What you are missing/should try is to do some things from life. Either draw your own hand, a cup of coffee or anything else. Should be good practice.

Thank you again for participating, the fundamentals are super important! So i hope this will work for you and will make you a better artist! :)

Thanks heaps for the constructive criticism. Next time I will do just that. To be honest I forgot about the 'blind' part of the contour. I've done this a long time ago and it's kinda hilarious to see the results doing it blind. Yes the lines are very sketchy, I should have done them as one continuous line. If not for time pressure (Christmas shopping calls!!) I would've made them a lot cleaner. I did consider going over them but thought that defeated the purpose. I can already see how much my proportions are out and will definitely work on that. I will have a go at finding something from life to have a go at. Plenty of cool things just on my desk here. I'll get back to it after this Xmas crazy!

Awesome ! Looking forward to the results! Be sure to let me know :P I suck at keeping track of thigns here on steemit ! Merry Xmas! Enjoy!
