Brushing up on photorealistic drawing after a while (on a device instead of paper)

I used a plastic disk stylus and my fingers. Is Apple Pencil worth buying? Are there any other less expensive options that anyone recommends over the Apple’s stylus?

I appreciate any suggestions.
