and became one of my main animal spirit allies.
It's such a magnificent creature to reflect in!
It carries a very strong medicine.
How it all started:
I heard that people from the Center for Biological Diversity are looking for an artist to create a mural art. At first, I wasn't interested at all because I was entering into one of the busiest times when I am holding the space for the global community moving through in my venue called the Galactic Center. But then I heard that they want a mural representing our local jaguar El Jefe, at the time it was the only jaguar still roaming free in this country...
and I said: YESSSS! I want to do it!!;)
In the same day when it was being decided that I am going to paint this mural, I had a very vivid dream...
I am in nature and I see a jaguar sitting on top of a rock. We had a very deep eye contact, and with my awareness, I could zoom in much closer to its eyes.. there was no fear dividing us.
In following time I was drawing so much of power and inspiration from this experience!
It turned out that in this very busy time I really needed to work with jaguar medicine for my own healing and empowerment. Through the entire process, I kept facing my own fears, to be able to move beyond them. It was my very first mural on this scale, and it was very interesting to reflect in the humanity of all different walks of life interacting with this piece.
I had great tests of compassion when the mural would get vandalized, but always I was able to use it to rise above, so the new eyes of awareness would emerge.
This piece was featured in the Smithsonian and High Sierra magazines. It became a symbol of opposition against a border wall and mining companies wanting to destroy the land where jaguar lives. At the time it was the only jaguar in this country, but ever since we got more of them, and El Jefe became very famous.
Photo above is from an official unveiling of the mural with Randy Serraglio from the Center for Biological Diversity and Mariachi band.
This time I felt called to create more accessible for the general public version to reflect in, but I am looking forward to bring forth more fierce representations in the future!;)
At this time I have a great opportunity to create a new mural in front of Solar Culture Gallery. Since 1987, Solar Culture has been home to Tucson’s art and music community, hosting events and showing original works of hundreds of local artists. This is also where I landed coming to this country, and it became such a great place for my growth and development.
Once again I am feeling called to bring forth the spirit of jaguar ally as one of the elements, working with its strong medicine, to continue raising this awareness.
I am ready to create something on a whole another level!
This is my rough design for it:
An actual mural art will be in full color and 10 x 10 feet.
I just launched a gofundme fundraiser for this project:
