ART EXPLOSION WEEK 38: SCI-FI - Aequorea NYC

in artzone •  6 years ago  (edited)

This is my entry for the new art explosion contest hosted by @juliakponsford
I think of my art in terms of abstraction of the cultural patterns you will see in traditional art forms around the world. Within that baseline I inject references to biology, science, technology, botanicals and generally imagine my artworks as living science fiction forms playing on a world stage over time.

My medium is colored sand. I make colorful abstractions in the parks of NYC and at locations around the world in both permanent and temporary forms. This is a temporary sand painting I made yesterday at Washington Square Park during the May Day rallies that took place.

Its always a bit unpredictable as to what will happen as the day progresses and the huge crowds make it a challenge at times.

Here is Aequorea NYC:
An aerial view of the completed piece, you can see my bags of colored sand next to box in upper right.
