Tawang district is the smallest of the 16 administrative districts of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. With a population of 49,977, it is the eighth least populous district in the country (out of 707). Tawang is a town situated at an elevation of approximately 3,048 metres (10,000 ft) to the east of Bhutan. The area is administered by the Republic of India as a part of the Arunachal Pradesh state, however, it is claimed by People's Republic of China as a part of South Tibet, under Tsona Dzong of Shannan, Tibet.

While Sela Pass does get heavy snow during winters, there is no stopping to experiencing that either. It is usually open throughout the year unless landslides slide in of course.

An interesting feature of Sela Pass is that, this place houses around 101 lakes around the pass. One such spectacular and famous lakes in Arunachal Pradesh is Sela Lake, it is also called as a Paradise Lake because of its appeal and beauty.
