Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The CBI had arrested Kejriwal on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in connection with the alleged corruption case related to the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22.

The CBI had sought Kejriwal's custody for further interrogation, citing that he was needed to confront him with evidence and that he had implicated former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the case. Kejriwal's counsel had requested that his family be allowed to meet him till the court passes an order, which was granted by the court.

The Delhi High Court had earlier stayed the trial court's order granting bail to Kejriwal in the case, and the CBI had moved the Supreme Court challenging the stay order. Kejriwal had withdrawn his plea from the Supreme Court and will now challenge the Delhi High Court's final order confirming the stay on bail.

The case is related to allegations of irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22, which was scrapped by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. The CBI has alleged that Kejriwal and other AAP leaders were involved in a conspiracy to benefit certain liquor sellers and that kickbacks received from them were used to fund the AAP's electoral campaign in Goa.

Kejriwal has denied the allegations and accused the CBI of running an extortion racket. The case is ongoing, and the court has reserved its order on Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest.
