These Asian-Americans turned out to be something other than a doctor...and it got a BuzzFeed article. Granted, "positive" stereotypes of Asian-Americans are everywhere and it's easy to become sick of them...or meme them. Some of these people had supportive parents who didn't care what they did as long as allowed for financial stability and didn't involve selling illegal drugs. Most of them did have ideal careers for their children, but (as far as I know) didn't fit the extreme "Asian parent" stereotype.
I thought this would be typical BuzzFeed cringe and I was wrong. I don't think any of these people are "settling for less", but are happy in what they do. My question is: Why does this have to be a race thing? I'm sure there are many people of other races who need to hear this sort of thing. I'm sure that most "successful" people found ways for their interests to work for them instead of going for a career that's lucrative, but ill-fitting.
