AskSteem: What's something that only happens on Steem?

in asksteem •  6 years ago

Now I'm not just referring to the most obvious things such as censorship resistant blockchain, being able to be rewarded through the voting system, sending transactions with no middlemen and no fees, etc.

More like things that occur here because of the system we have which would not be possible to happen on other platforms. Things like the psychology of voting, to get the authors attention, to vote on a comment you agree with or that you ackowledge you've read it. Voting cause you're hoping to get a vote back from a bigger user, maybe even witness voting just to get the other person's attention. Flagging not just cause you disagree with the rewards but you just want to see the world burn, etc.

Fun things like those, I'm sure there are a lot of things I haven't mentioned that can only occur on our system which may not even have existed in the past at all - such as resteems possibly increasing your rewards generated on that post depending on who resteemed it and how active his followers are with their voting.

Anyway, no need to keep it civil if there are some things you've thought of that may occur and you don't want to mention cause they're a bit taboo or something. Go ahead and let's talk about them. :)

What about the trust factor here. For the most part, if someone on reddit said send me 5 dollars and I'll send you xyz I would laugh. But for some reason on steemit there are all kinds of transactions for goods and services and people seem to have a bit more trust in their fellow humans.
Of course there are scammers but... The majority of steemians are decent. :)

Yea great point actually, prolly tied at least a bit to the blockchain being “permanent”.

Really great point, can you believe I was able to borrow almost 10k steem from 3 different users I've never met before? That's steem for ya and it really helped me out a lot at the time. Would've never worked anywhere else with just trust.

That's what I'm talking about!
Blockchain records and everyone being able to make money on a post helps to encourage this.

Steem Blockchain!

So much this. The chain attracts the best calibre of person; then rewards them for being trustworthy.
NB: I saw your name and didn't lose any ranking points. I'm going to go mark today on the calendar.

Writing comments to users on some boring post that is the same thing every day hoping for an upvote. I have luckily moved on from those desperate days and regained some sanity.

lol, yep!

Hey why haven't you been around on my posts lately?

:P

The trolling is less outright because of the voting system/incentive. One of my favorite aspects actually.

Very true! It is a lot harder to be an absolute douche canoe here. :)

Of you want to be a douchecanoe, the account name is avaliable.

I think having a separate account for extremist views shitposts, comments and trolling is a great idea.

Ha! I've got my other accounts. @bigbuhbrown says hi.. I just don't have the time to be a slack jawed jack bag.
It's too time consuming.

The fact that very little is written about established social media channels here, they are simply ignored, we should all be much more on other sites like Facebook and talk and link about Steem.

Personality Enhancement.

I strongly believe Steemit is the only social media\community offering all help in genres of real life.

You want to learn photography - Go follow some good photographers here, see their work, read about it, ask them directly - You learn bingo.

You want to learn meditation - I have people here with whom I do group meditation on discord - you get meditation friends bingo

You want to see the world with eyes of a real normal person and not the google images - from Alps to Iceland, I have seen everything on Steemit - You travel from right behind your screen bingo.

I can explain the same for cryptocurrency, food, nature, health, and what not.

Money - well that's just a bonus that Steemit is offering.

There isn’t enough trolling here.

When stake/earnings is tied to your opinion people are less likely to commit their support.

That is unless it’s backed by a whale.

Well for me, I had to try online gambling for the "first time" and I don't even play in real life.

I'm talking about Magic dice, I already stopped playing it few months ago but I did play on it for almost a month, it's just so addicting.

Maybe one of the reason is because I'm basically betting the "free steem / crypto" that I have earned here.

So yeah, only in steem ;)

xD steem-roller.com is where the action is at nowadays.

FLAG WARS!!!

Well on a happier note, we've got great devs that care about STEEM. I know that others do too, but who's created something like Utopian to reward open source dev? Nobody I've seen.

Plus we've got a personal favorite on here, @acidyo, where else can I find him?

I'm not active on any other platforms anymore, even though I try on Reddit just because of r/Steemit but it feels like such a burden.

Talking about Steem.

I guess people Tweet about Twitter or Facebook about Facebook, but not nearly to the same extent. It's probably because people think that maintaining a positive optimistic cult like atmosphere looks good to potential outside investors.

I doubt it has anything to do with investors, the fudsters and complainers nullify that quickly. :D

I think it's just more about how deep the rabbit hole is in this system and how much you can do/create and talk about it, I mean it's literally limitless.

One thing I've noticed recently, between Avengers End Game and Game of Thrones; on Facebook and 9gag I'm stumbling blindfolded through a spoiler minefield.
I haven't seen a single post here that gave away any element of a plotline, unless it was behind a big "Spoiler warning" warning. Give yourselves a round :)

  1. Everyone is nice to each other, the only exceptions I've seen were people angry at developers.
I guess the upvotes are some kind of an incentive to be friendly.

  2. The videos disappearing on dtube after a certain amount of time, unless you.. I don't really know what you need to do in order to keep your videos.

  3. People posting for the sake of posting because they want an upvote, or to get partiko points

Although I'm still learning my way around, seems like a great community feel here. I've been involved in many online communities in the past, but obviously this a different beast. So far my encounters have been friendly, and looking forward to meeting more people.

Plus the exclusive games that's on the blockchain is something I'm going to look into this week which should be an Interesting experience!

Oh, I noticed this. Trending posts ( blogs?) Can have just two replies.

Forums, chat rooms, my time in clans, guilds in online gaming, and social media all have more interaction.

I have seen spam elsewhere but nothing like the genius and efforts done here! Makes me laugh sometimes!

The anti spam initiatives that are afraid to do anything about whales abusing system.

That word called flagging, I suffer from it in my early days on steemit
