AskSteemit: What has been your best vacation?

in asksteemit •  7 years ago

Lately I've been thinking about taking a small break from Steem, feels like I'm nearing the burn out zone again when most of my waking hour revolves around it.

I was thinking of where I should go and looked back at some of the places I've been in in the past. Last year we went to Spain with my roommate and had a pretty good time.

The best vacation that comes to mind though, has been when I went to Germany after my highschool finished. We visited this german exchange student and as it so happened the World Cup in Football was held there that year at the same time. The best part about the trip was that I was really into german and was going to study it in the university so it felt great to use it a bit more and practice talking. To my surprise it went better than I expected, after a few days of talking it actively it became so fluent that my german friend's friends thought I was just some friend of his from another city.

It was in the middle of summer, the weather was great, a lot of drinking involved - I remember that it was because of german beer that I started to like beer in the first place. I never drank it here in Finland before. Italy went on to win the World Cup and it was an awesome trip overall and met a lot of great people.

Now I feel like I really want to visit Germany again but then again there are so many places I still haven't visited so I thought I'd ask you guys where you've spent the best vacation in so far and why you liked it so much. So...

Steemit, where have you enjoyed your vacation the most and why?

I've travelled to a few countries, but all of them were Western until I had the occasion to travel to Japan, which was by far my best vacation ever. There were many sources to my pleasure there, but the main one was that I have a strong interest in analysing people and their behaviour, and Japan is absolutely different from what I would have expected. I was even told many things about it before, but it is truly a fascinating place to be in.

First of all, everything was absolutely clean on the streets. There was not one cigar, one little piece of plastic. I don't know how they manage it. I think that I saw one piece of garbage and it was a little bag that had flown off a cliff near a cave, where it was really hard go to pick it up. I imagine that if it had not been so hard to reach, it would have been picked up already by the time I passed by.

While on there, I talked to quite a few tourists and many had only explored the main touristic parts and been to places filled with other tourists. They were sightseeing, and that's ok, but they didn't have the chance to really see the Japanese in their "natural habitat". I went to farms, to middle-class apartments, to a fisher's home and followed a tourist guide in Hiroshima who described their view on the terrible events that ended World War II. I was amazed that they were not resentful at all but felt guilty of their participation in the war and felt that it was some kind of rightly but disastrous punishment.

On my way back, I felt that I still had so much to explore, and ever since then, every vacation I've taken hasn't been to "exotic places" to see beaches or buildings but to reach into communities and examine them thoroughly. What I love about it is that it creates the greatest separation from the zone of comfort where we are accustomed to be and pops the bubble of our familiarity. We cannot become one with this new environment at once, and this feeling of our minds trying to adapt is just wonderful.

Japan has been on my list in forever! I love their culture and grew up with anime and manga! <3

Our very best vacations have been Hawaii (rented a house) and the beautiful beaches there. Snorkling, swimming, touring a lava tube, seeing volcanoes, going to the top of Mt Haleakala. Our kids loved it!
Maine - we rented a beach house in a small town. It was gorgeous. One beach nearby was a sand beach. The other beach you had to hike to and it was a rock/pebble beach. At low tide you could hike out to a little island and explore it. This was magical for the kids!

Camping at the Grand Canyon. The kids had a BLAST. My oldest brought his bike and rode it around the campsite. We had so much fun doing hikes, riding mules, eating good food, making a campfire every night.

We had one vacation in Moab...we went mountain biking (on easy trails bc our youngest would sit in her bike seat) which our kids LOVED. We hiked/explored at Arches Nat'l Park which our kids also loved.

We do ski vacations each winter...there are a gazillion ski areas within a day's driving distance from here. Our ski passes are good at 7 different ski areas, so we go to each one each year (if we can make it work). The kids love it. Our 3 year old was skiing on her own by the end of last year which was amazing to me.

Last summer was one of our best vacations ever. We flew to Juneau, Alaska (where we used to live). Rented a car, and took it on the ferry to Haines. Then we drove up into interior Alaska, visited my brother, camped, and saw the sights. The kids had such an amazing time...they got to canoe, pick berries, see glaciers, see all kinds of wildlife, go to national refuges and state and national parks. All of us agree the most amazing part of the trip was Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and the Kennicott mine. WOW. Truly incredible.

someone told me before that Germans are really fond of drinking. Was it because of their weather or is there something else behind that? Whenever I feel like I'm burnt out, I always escape from the usual things that I do everyday, that includes working or even socializing in social media sites(that also includes Steemit). I escape, I try to go to a place where there is peace and serenity. Usually, beach, resort or some good place with good food and weak wifi is my go-to place to visit. After taking a break, I feel energized and more than ready to fight again! 😁

You see, resting is really important. We should not drain ourselves. Life is good! We just need to balance everything ❤

The best trip in my life was to Rajasthan, I went there with my family, the best place I visited in Rajasthan is known as pink city Jaipur, each and every house there is coloured by pink. I really loved to see that, as if it was some kind of uniform code. I went through a lot of old palaces too the "Maharajas" still oen these palaces. Certain palaces contain a lot of historical things too which were used by thier ancestors. A palce of culture, history and love.

I have fond memories of watching that 2006 world cup with a couple of friends!

I would have to say that my best vacation was on my 2nd visit to the United States back in 2008, I was 13 years old and that time i finally understood the difference between where i was living and the USA, i had so much fun walking around the streets, visiting malls and eating fast food that from that time on, i decided that i would eventually move into the United States.

Taking a vacation is always good, especially if you are starting to feel burnout.

Hello Sir, @acidyo

The best vacation I ever had in my life was my trip to Dubai and US.

This trip was best because I am with my lovely sister. It was the first time when we together had gone for a trip. This is so because we live extremely apart from each other.

The amazing experience I had in my life was paragliding. It was immensely beautiful to see the ocean beyond the limits and to fly in the sky like a bird. This was a pretty amazing beautiful thing that ever happened to me.

The credit of this fantastic experience goes to my sis. As her desire to do paragliding, I accompanied her This was an experience that made my trip the best trip of my life.

Barcelona. It was the first trip with my now wife for her 30th. It is a fantastic city and it is really laid back. We spent the time walking around the streets talking and taking pictures of the amazing architecture. I'd say it is a pretty chill place to hang out and relax.

Go somewhere a little further a field. Germany is on your doorstep. How about Cape Town? There is so much to see and the best scenery in the world. It is not that expensive. exchange rate is favorable at 14 rands to the Euro. A weeks break would be long enough and even though it is winter will still be warmer than Finland's summer. If you decide on going there i will be able to help you as I know it like the back of my hand as I grew up there.

even though it is winter will still be warmer than Finland's summer.

Not true (maybe the far north of Finland north of the arctic circle).

How hot is your summer then?

In July, it is about 5 C warmer in Helsinki than in Cape Town in terms of daily average, minimum and maximum. The average daily maximum in Cape Town is about 17.5 C and about 22.5 C in Helsinki in July.

Not much can beat the Finnish summers. :)

Won't argue with facts but if you haven't been you have to go.

Cape Town sure sounds like an interesting place to visit. A friend of mine visited it a few years ago. The Western Cape province is told to be the best area of South Africa to visit. Is it in your opinion?

Yes and Natal. Game farms are good in Zulu land.

How many times did you get your SBD pickpocketed? :P

lol.. It is only a problem if you don't look Spanish.. ;)

How do you "look" Spanish? 🙄

I mean, "not white" :P

@tarazkp sir and @acidyo sir its an awesome conversation :)

lol tio!

I wish I would go to Barcelona and Real Madrid to look at two places in the future, I and my wife together this place will be sharing the group together and of course with you, and Sir, it's been nice to know that you spent a lot of moments in Barcelona.

xD

Sounds like German had a special place in your life before you went there. Additionally timing ended up on your side as well, unintentionally even.

So it's hard for me to suggest a place or an event. I would say that coming to America could do that. I would suggest going to Zion and the grand canyon.. and coming when you can go to burning man or the electric Daisy carnival.

If those sound to wild. Come and go to a comicon or the e3 event.

Me, I don't like big crowds. I had a really good time travelling around Alaska and I would like to go back again.

There are many place where I feel like best but my memorible day that day when I went to with my friends to visit sagordari in jesore.we enjoy very much that day.

What is that strange word "vacation", haven't heard about it before!
I only know words like sleepless and no-weekends!

Sincerely speaking, I haven't had a vacation but the perfect destination for vacation should be Prague in Czech. There are a lot of beautiful places to visit over there. @czechglobalhosts post will show you more about Prague

Last summer I was travelled to naran and kaghan valley with my friends . It is northern area of pakistan . I was going to this place before 8 months in August . I was really enjoyed with my friends and make alot of fun with snowfall

@acidyo, I have big dream travel around the world. But haven't any chance to succeed those goal. I only enjoyed my state in naturalize forest. But I have some suggestion to travel around. In fact, Czech Republic is a most impressive to see to mine and everyone. There has most peaceful condition and naturalize location. Also there are so many architectural buildings with build up using their amazing technology.
Other wise I love to Finland winter season. If I have any opportunity to go around I definitely choose both locations. Finland has most tremendous naturalize locations.

Well since you started to like beer after you've visited Germany it's very typical that you'd want to visit it, however have you tried a country with.a lot of seas? Like the Bahamas? You could like surfing after that.

There are many places where I feel best in my life but my best vacation is that when I go muree with my college friends I really enjoy it it's memberabl because i really enjoy it fun entertainment and joy with me

Wao amazing tour dear I really like your post about your traveling to germany .

enjoy your vacation.keep smile always.

miss you @acidyo,come back as soon as possible

explore tourist attractions along the comrades

holiday to bali, indonesia. pampered with panoramic views of nature and local culture 😄

I would advise you to come over to Austria ;)
One the one hand, we have to offer the same high standard of beer, on the other hand we have more beautiful nature - and the best is, it is all relatively close together, so you would be able to cover quite a lot in a short period of time ;)
You have seen my latest hiking report, so you should know what to expect!
Greets man!

Hey, Buddy go to us in Russia! :-) We just happened the World Cup in Football.
Вeer? Not as excellent as the German or Czech, but completely usable.
Do you need a gide? No problem!

I'd say Japan was a fun visit, went with a couple friends including one who was from Japan and was able to show us around. The transportation and food were awesome, and we were able to visit some beautiful historic temples as well as check out the amazingly dense downtown areas of Tokyo and Kyoto... Also visiting an owl cafe and holding owls was an unexpected piece of awesomeness

I've never been out of my country for holiday but i heard Dubai is a good place, I heard Bahamas too. Well, It's only the people that have been there that can tell.. Vegas is probably the first place i will visit when I'm ready, I heard crazy things happen there, that is if you are a party type.

New Zealand! Amazing nature! :)

I've been to Germany and stayed there for a month. I didn't like being there, because I had to always stay around my friend, since I didn't know a single german word. The country is nice though.

I've enjoyed my vacations the most in my own country, since I hang around with my friends and we go to beautiful places together when we're on holidays. But of course, I haven't visited a lot of countries. There's so many that I want to visit, so I'll do that in the near future.

Wow this is an amazing one. But you can take vacation to anywhere in the world, but not out of Steem.... Not even for a day #smiles

I suggest Paris

Last December I went to some places to spend my vacation vacation, one of them came to Singapore and Malaysia and I was very good and the people there and the food was very nice. I think Singapore and Malaysia are a very nice place to travel and vacation, people are very sincere And I was very popular and the people there so much We have great fun friendly.

When I went to Singapore and Malaysia, I had a lot of friends and family with them, I did the whole country very nicely with them and at the beach and sunset I enjoyed it very much. This is the best sunrise that I have seen.

Dear Sir @acidyo,
These places are very nice to spend around vacationing with family and friends, and the atmosphere is very nice.I will try to move to Spain and several other states on its next holiday vacation, hoping that soon I will be enjoying my holidays.

I enjoyed my vacation in Bali because there are many beautiful beaches over there...
Hope you enjoyed your vacation also, dear @acidyo ...❤

Have a great day...!☕🤗😍

My best vacation was when i travel to lagos to my aunt place. I love the place because it eas an estate area and love the ideal of staying inside only

You know there is a country that has some beautiful natural beauties, such as the highest waterfall in the world is called the Angel Falls that remains in Venezuela I would recommend this wonderful country, it has very good places to visit and know.
However, I tell you with all my heart, do not come, I do not recommend that you come to this country, although I love and live in it, I can tell you with certainty that the communist government that is sending you could harm you. Here a few of us are struggling to get those criminals out but in very difficult they have many weapons and kill anyone who opposes them.

If not for everything that happens here in Venezuela, I really tell you and even my home I put it at your disposal.

I hope you excuse my English. I use the Google translator

The one the Steemit paid for :P

Fijian islands for me. No internet, not much booze, weird local drink, and plenty of food cooked underground.

I love a hammock and some tunes, holidays for me are for relaxing.

The best vacation I ever had in my life was my trip to Bombay and Goa.

As her desire to do paragliding, I accompanied her.
This was an experience that made my trip the best trip of my life.

Hmmmmm, I will say vacation is not really something in vogue here in Nigeria cos of the economy.
Last year, I wanted to go on my first vacation to the USA but was denied visa. I even wrote a post about the experience then. You can check the post here: https://steemit.com/nigeria/@fatherfaith/my-experience-at-the-us-embassy

This year, I'm planning to go to Dubai for my vacation. I pray I make enough money on steemit to be able to go

My best vacation was when I visited a German city called Dusseldorf with my uncle, because there was a medical fair hosted in that city, and he went there to meet some suppliers. In my case, I went there to simply visit and learn.

I loved Germany, we went in November so it was very cold, but I liked everything. Beautiful country, and most importantly, beautiful women!

In the same trip we also visited Rome, and its most important places,The Vatican and The Coliseum. It is an unforgettable experience to walk around Rome's streets because they look so old, and the Vatican has a creepy stair with a rope hanging so people can grab it and don't fall.

So if you haven't visited Rome, I recommend it.

It depends on what you are actually looking for, that way it should narrow the destination down a little bit, sorry am not the traveling type so I can't suggest any good location for you.

But good luck with your asksteemit quest

My best vacation trip was to Florida, but only because it let me escape the shitty winter here for a few weeks at the time. Otherwise, I haven't actually been on a vacation that was super enjoyable, mostly because I haven't been on vacation more than once or twice since I was like 7. Which is kind of depressing when I think about it.

At this time I'd like to go to a Caribbean beach. On the other hand I can't stop seeing as your acid destroys other social networks, very funny...

How about visiting Russia? The world cup comes up in June by the way and it would be nice to get exclusive scenes from you.

Although I do not know if you would find the Russian weather benign enough.

Went to cabo san lucas last year, but my fav vacation spot is for sure hawaii. Perfect weather and the atmosphere is just sooo chill. You cant help but relax.

I suggest that you vacation to Bali, Indonesia 🇮🇩 😜

I suppose my best overall trip was to China. The country is so vast and different wherever you go. The Chinese people were much friendlier than I had anticipated. I visited about a year after the SARS epidemic, and tourism had pretty much dried up. I was in one the few post-SARS visits and we were especially welcomed. We had first-class accomodations. The food was wonderful

I just got back from an awesome trip to the Redwood Forests of Northern California. Nothing beats seeing something so rare. Here is my post with tons of pictures, but the pictures seriously does no justice to its beauty.

https://steemit.com/travel/@beemillz/a-trip-through-the-redwood-forest

I went to Bantayan Island in Cebu in the Philippines two months ago. It was beautiful. Not a lot of people, great weather and crystal blue waters.

Food was plentiful, the beer cold and fresh and did some snorkeling. It was one of the best vacations I had lately.

20180309_111528.jpg

Oh...@acidyo is there any better opportunity than this to visit Greece?
I think it is one of the most beautiful destinations to spend your vacations.
The reason?Summer is on its way (although we have summer almost 300 days every year) you will enjoy the sun,the beautiful beaches and seas, the islands....
You can also visit sights in every corner of Greece and learn about our history. That is what summer is all about isnt't it?
Well my best vacations is here in Greece and i recommend it to all of you people.Ifyou haven't been here before a visit will make you visit our country every year!!!

nice post man!

I have never left Venezuela, and I have no other reference.
I live in the Venezuelan east, and there are beautiful beaches that you can visit.
My children love it, so every time we go to the beach it's a wonderful day for them, and by the smile on their faces they make our day.
If you decide to come, and you need a Christian guide, let me know.

Exuma Islands - swimming with the pigs!

I live in the North East of the United States so big cities and mountains are always driving distance. So going to a place similar to home is boring.

I live for going to places with pristine water and palm trees.

You can see my footage here:

Atlantis Bahamas is also very nice (and expensive).

Sir @acidyo. My idea is russia. Because of the 2018 World Cup to be held in Russia. So can watch the world cup 2018. And Russia has a beautiful place, such as:

  1. Yekaterinburg
  2. Kazan
  3. Samara
  4. Sochi
  5. St. Petersburg
  6. Rostov-on-Don. And many others.

I do think you should take some time off! Getting burnt out is never a good thing, especially with all that you add to the platform!

I think my favorite vacation I have ever been on is when I traveled to Greece! We took a cruise to 3-4 different islands with my favorite being Santorini. We took donkeys up to the top. The views were breathtaking and the food was incredible! At the time the Greeks were on a labor strike, but this has
since passed! Many of the buildings are made of volcanic rock, which so cool to see in person!

My favorite vacation place is Laughlin, Nevada USA. I have gone there countless times and I suppose the underpinning reason is the inexpensive rooms. Laughin is basically a gambler's resort, but it is not necessary to gamble to have a good time. Laughlin is situated on the Colorado River, so you can rent wave runners and other kinds of water craft.

I always stay there Sunday through Thursday to get the best rates. I never pay more than $25/day and that may even include a buffet, beer and pizza.

Laughlin is a great base for excursions to places like Grand Canyon, Area 51, Death Valley and others. Las Vegas, the mother of all resorts, is only 90 miles away. This may sound like far away, but in this part of the world that is not a great distance because fast highways connect all these places.

I would like you to come to Africa Ghana because a lot of foreigners spend their vacation here but the Prague in Czech guy has convinced me with such amazing pictures. I think you should try Prague in Czech out thanks.

Singapore

Malta. It is a small island but totally varied. Great beaches, great nature, great buildings and most importantly: great people. My friend and I were there with airbnb and it was just beautiful. It felt like living in paradise! But Germany is also great, especially Bavaria, that's where I live! Also los, komm nach Deutschland, man wird dich gerne empfangen :D

Und ich hoffe es wird dir dann besser gehen, egal wo hin du gehen wirst.
And I hope you'll feel better no matter where you go.

I moved to Germany a month before the 2006 World Cup, and my city hosted 5 games. It was awesome! Not so good for my productivity at my new job, but awesome none the less :)

With that said, go to Vietnam. It's cheap, beautiful, and is full of kind and curious people. The food is great, the beer is cheap, and the way that life is lived out there may change the way you think about your own life.

I guess if you haven't traveled through much of Europe, it could be cool to do that, but I'd think it would be boring as hell for a European. It seems like a waste of money to visit places so similar to everything you've known for your whole life. I only lived in Germany for 8 years, but most of the places in Europe that I visited made me think "Oh, it's just like Germany, but without the Germans and with 'insert local food here'". Plus you can safely and comfortably travel Europe when you're old. Vietnam is less comfortable and might be better experienced when youth is on your side.

I went to 25 countries on my big trip, and Vietnam was my favorite by leaps and bounds. Spain is the only European country I'd like to return to for vacation.

publica el futbol ingles mañana hay futbol de inglaterra

My best vacation is kinda a 2 parter.

As a kid it was a trip to Disney. We went every year as we had a house in Kissimmee but one year was different. I think there was work being done on the house and we stayed at the Grand Floridian. It was amazing. Park hopper passes we’re the $hit!!! This is going back 25 years ago or so but I remember going to the parks during the day with my mom and dad, baby sister, older sister and myself. Then at night after eating dinner, my folks would head bank and stay in for the night with my baby sister and we would roam the grounds at Disney. Going to wherever we wanted. It was awesome being in my teens and having that bonding experience with my one sister. I hope to provide a similar experience for my 2 kids next year.

More recently, my wife and I took a European trip. I had never been and I’m jonesing to Head back. We went to a friend’s wedding in Dublin, then bounced to London, Bruges, and finally Amsterdam. It was a magical experience that I’ll cherish forever. I’ll eventually do write ups here on our adventures there. @acidyo great post. Thx for letting me share.

I wait your new contest predict football.😊

Haven't had any crazy vacation stories.

But my dream vacation would be a trip from Estonia (my country) going to a cruise to Spain and from there to America and back to Estonia.

My dream vacation is basically a cruise, i love being on a ship sailing around :D

The more time I spent in nature, the better the vacation gets so I would guess spending 8 days hiking in the mountains of Romania really got me in tune with nature and also was plenty of time for adventures and fun memories.

In the summer of 2002, I went on a 24 day holiday, the first ten days of which I spent in northern Italy and the following fourteen days mostly in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb.

I spent much of the Italian part of the trip cycling in Lombardy and the southermost Swiss canton of Ticino. I'd cycle a 100 km per day on average and see the sights in the afternoon. I visited Lugano, the capital city of Ticino. The scenery was awesome. While nowhere near the high Alps, the terrain was quote mountainous and there were many large lakes in the area. Lago di Maggiore is about 65 km long and about 2-5 km wide. Another notable lake is Lago di Como. Como is one of the western ends of the Silk Road. That Switzerland is a rich country with high consumer prices is a fact but tourism was so incredibly well organized that I was able to find suitably priced accommodation right away even in the evening without knowing anything about the hotels and hostels of each locality I spent a night in. This was before the smartphone era so I wasn't able to even google anything up. Ticino is a very beautiful place both in terms of nature and as a built environment. I later heard that Star Wars films had been shot there (the Naboo scenes).

The Italian side was pretty much like Finland in terms of the cost of food and lodging. I spent four nights as the guest of a Scottish EU official who was also a go player. He lived in a very large house about 60 km north of Milan and his family was visiting relatives in Scotland at the time of my visit. The locals in Italy did not speak much English but it did not bother me much. As a cycling destination, however, Switzerland is superior to Italy in terms of bicycle paths being built in a lot of places like in Northern Europe. After my tour in Italy and Switzerland, I took a train from Milan to Zagreb. While traveling by train in Italy was comfortable and fast, the track was in poor condition and the trains were very slow, like 30 km/h, in Slovenia and Croatia. I would've taken a bus if I had known better. The train made a stop at Venice. I had not arranged for time to visit it which I regret.

Croatia was much cheaper and the locals spoke good English almost universally. The Adriatic coast of Croatia is spectacularly beautiful. The weather in July was ideal (I like heat). The Yugoslavian civil war had ended only seven years earlier and I could sense some degree of negative emotions beneath the surface in the locals which I witnessed boiling over a couple of times. But Croatia has a lot to see and it has outstanding natural beauty on the coast.

I have enjoyed my holidays with my parents, every time I am with them, I feel totally at ease, and it is great to feel good when you are with them, the cold mountains see the wonderful flowers and landscapes that are granted, plus the tranquility , that's great ♥

Two years ago, me and my wife went to St.Petersburg in Russia. Ever since my wife was a little girl she dreamed of going to see this city and I was against it. What is there to see in Russia!? I'd say to her. 10 minutes after we checked into the hotel, I was in love with this place. It is beautiful, clean and the people are nice and welcoming.
I think when the tzars built this city they really tried to make the prettiest and the most monumental place possible. The white nights are incredible and the city in the end of June becomes a huge non-stop festival of music and parties. Everything was pretty cheap and we usually got great service and a warm treatment.
To conclude - it is a beautiful place woth great culture and incredible people and this year in the end of june the World Cup os played there. Enjoy.

Awww I love Spain! ❤️❤️❤️ I totally recommend you visit us in California! We could go to Hawaii together too, it’s an awsome spot.

No, es Fuengirola 😛

If you will go back to travelling there would be no more streams! That would be just sad :(

The only time I’ve been on vacation in my adult life was a weekend to the Bay Area back in 2010. I visited San Francisco and got to eat some sourdough bread bowls with clam chowder and walk all over the city. I’d like to go back but can’t afford to (time/money). I also visited Berkeley that weekend and had some amazing deep dish pizza!

Well seems like Germany did made a soft spot in your mind :)

While hope you get a nice new place to have some fine moments and hopefully it will make a spot like Germany in your mind.

I wish that I could go for a vacation but I needed to work in order to survive but what is keeping me really was my disability and it is a pain thing to think about.

If you have some time and like long flights I can recommend Guatemala and Costa Rica :)

I was born in Austria, but moved to Canada at an early age, and lived there for over 40 years - I did not come back for a vacation to Vienna for 10 years, but then I visited very frequently. A few years after retirement, in 2011, I returned to Vienna to stay. I still enjoy being a tourist in my own city.
Vienna has been voted the "most liveable city in the world for the ninth time!"

How do I pick one? I guess I'll say my solo road trip from BC, Canada to Colorado, Arizona, and California. I lived out of my van, met some fantastic friends, bathed in wild water, and spent a good deal of time by the ocean. Such a special journey.

When I was young, I always wanted to go as far away as possible. With time I got so sick of flying, that my radius is now very much determined by my motorcyle... Southern Germany is a good starting point though. You have some major cities like Munich, Prague and even Vienna close enough for a quick visit. I particularly like to go to the Czech Republic. All the historical places... castles everywhere! We just got home from a motorcycle tour to Cesky Krumlov ( is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992):

Other than that, and if a bigger city isn't the destination, I have fallen in love with Croatia over the past few years.

The best vacations I have spent in my country Venezuela, Margarita Island has spectacular beaches, has hotels with many recreations and lots of fun, Merida is excellent, is a mountainous area and a fabulous climate, beautiful landscapes and people are very friendly, but the trip of my life I did 17 years ago to the Gran Sabana, is a spectacular place, rivers, mountains, tepuys, the angel jump, in short, my Venezuela is beautiful and economical compared to other currencies! I hope you have a happy holiday.

The best vacation I had was the last one in Turkey. Although I've been there for (I believe) 11 times and also visited the town we went to last time before, this was my absolute top vacation.
We had a great all inclusive hotel, and after the 10 days were finished we made lots of friends and wanted to stay. So I asked the lady from the travel agency what it would cost to change the flight. In the meanwhile I had found a hotel for only 11 euro's a night (both of us) including breakfast!!! So when we booked the new flight and hotel, it cost us only 250 euro for 11 more days for the two of us :)
I had an absolute blast there.. not because we went partying (don't do that anymore) but because we had some nice people around us where we had the best evenings with, and we found the restaurant with the best steak of our lives ..
So my advice if you ever have the change, go to Icmeler (the one near Marmaris) in Turkey.

another funny thing: I told my boyfriend take your kite gear because you can go kitesurfing near Icmeler.. So all the hassle of carrying these big things , and then find out this was about the Icmeler hundreds KM away :) oops.. sorry babes lol.. I never heard of that 2nd place before, and I thought I was a person that knew the spots there lol.. well, not if it comes to kitesurfing I suppose...
