Epsilon Indi is one of the stars who are next door to us with a distance of 11.8 light years. However, even though we are so close because we can not see the night with the naked eye, it is an unknown star.
Epsilon Indi (Epsilon Indian, GJ 845, HIP 108870) is an orange star of the K spectral class, slightly smaller than our Sun, with a mass of 76% and a diameter of 73% (1 million 20,000 km). The surface temperature is about 4,400 degrees Celsius due to the relatively low mass. If we make a calculation based on the diameter and surface temperature, we reach the result that the lighting power is about 20% of the sun. For this reason, the world can not be seen with the naked eye, ie 11.8 light years away.
As you know, each star has a life that allows Earth-like life; There is an orbital distance (in which liquid water can be "flooded" on a surface of a planet), ranging from 110-120 million km for the Sun and 250 million km for Epsilon Indi, the same trajectory for 50 million km km.
Star System
One of the reasons why the star is interesting is that it hosts a brown dwarf system far away from itself. T spectral class Two brown dwarfs are located in an orbit of 230 billion km from the star. The distance between the brown dwarfs is about 300 million km. That is about twice the distance between the Sun and Earth. At this distance, the two dwarves are turning around each other's common gravitational center for a period of about 15 years.
The distance of the brown dwarfs to the star is so high that even if we compare it with the Sun, our Kuiper Belt is out of the region we call it. So far outside the guard shield of Epsilon Indie, the main star, they have acquired an orbit in an almost star-like atmosphere.
