Steemit Exclusive: Massive Dark Planet Found Near Polaris - Visible with Naked Eye

in astronomy •  7 years ago  (edited)

There is a massive dark planet that is visible with the naked eye located in front of Polaris. I was able to finally photograph it a few nights ago and have provided pictures with examples of how to see it. The second picture is only an example. I placed a black circle showing where to look for the object. I suggest opening each image in separate tabs and then tabbing between them (with ctrl + tab). You will see the object much clearer if you do it this way instead of comparing side by side. Pictures were taken with a 10 second exposure. Reasons you can't see it on other images on the web is they use far too long of an exposure time (2 mins is fairly common) which washes out all the detail and only displays a "white ball". Don't trust me or these pictures on this. Go outside and look at the stars. You can see it with your own eyes!

Good job, see you next time in Promoted! ;)

Wow! I am an astrologer (also interested in astronomy) and I watch the skies often. I don't know all of the constellations and the sky map but I can find a few things. This is pretty cool! How did you first find it or notice it? Ps. I am also in Colorado.

I cant find it in the image :)

Its in the second (bottom) image. The black spot in front of the brightest star in the picture.

Oh there you go. I was watching on my phone at first now its clear on pc.

Hang on, I ran it through a high pass filter... You can see another to the left now? What the heck

If it's a planet then it's either close to us or incredibly huge! Maybe it's @lordvader in his Death Star.

I'm impressed by how much Steem you've bought. You might be better of powering it up rather than using the Savings as you would then have a lot of voting power and would earn from voting.

"That's no moon!" -- Han Solo

I thought it was Obi Wan who said that. Engage tractor beam!

Doh! You are of course correct.

They say the first thing that goes when you get older is the mind, and I don't remember what the second thing is!

I've seen Star Wars too many times :) I was there in 77 when it came out.

I was born in '72, so I don't remember seeing Ep. 4 in the theater (I need to remember to ask my Dad if he ever took me). I definitely remember seeing Ep. 5 in the theater, mostly because of the scene of Han being tortured (him strapped into that chair that had sparks going off), partly due to the carbonite and "Luke falling out the bottom of the city" scenes.

BTW, what's proper etiquette on post replies? I don't want to be seen as rambling on pointlessly. :)

Now the nesting limit is gone we can keep on going :)

I was born in 66, so I was the perfect age for Star Wars. I was jealous of a friend who had the official digital watch :) There wasn't as much merchandise in those days, but I wish I'd kept some of what I had. I feel Star Wars hasn't dated as badly as some other movies of that era. As for Ep 1- 3...
