This is called the Tarantula nebula and is 160,000 Light Years away. It's in another galaxy called the Large Magellanic Cloud which one day will smash into our Milky Way. We can actually see the galaxy with the naked eye from Australia. Click on it and drill down into the picture (big screen is best) and you'll see for yourself some of the billions of white, red & blue stars making up the galaxy, especially in the top right.
To make this picture, I aligned and combined a total of sixty 15 minute shots (15 hrs) taken through my Stellarvue telescope with a Marovian G2-8300 camera with the sensor chilled to -20C (-4F) using hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur filters.130mm refractor
