In regards to the ongoing ASUU strike which started last week Monday, as a result of the demand for improved
funding of universities and welfare of
lecturers, the three major non-academic staff unions are to make a
decision tomorrow whether or not to join the strike by the
university lecturers.

According to Premium Times, an online news portal, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian
Universities, SSANU will be meeting with the Non-
Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU,
and the Non-Academic Technicians, NAT, in
Abuja to decide on whether to join the ongoing
industrial action by the Academic Staff Union
of Universities, ASUU.

"The associations have
been pushed to the wall by the federal
government", Abdulsubur Salaam, the National Public
Relations Officer of SSANU, made this known during an
interview.

Speaking further, he stated;
“The federal government has been discussing with the academics but we have
been reaching out to them before now and
they have refused to heed our call.

He added that,
“The issue of staff school that is being
negotiated and we are not carried along was
agreed on by the four unions in Nigerian
varsities; our earned allowances have not
been paid too and branches are really heaping
pressure on us, especially on the staff school
issue.”

The National Public Relation Officer concluded saying,
“So full blown strike may be inevitable as at
now. However, we would take that meeting on
Wednesday and make a decision on this
there.”

Despite the situation on ground now, the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu made it known that the strike could be called off within a week.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the supposed meeting that was held between the Federal Government and the Union last Thursday ended in a standstill.

The ongoing ASUU strike is creating a setback for most institutions as most of them are supposed to be writing the end of the semester's examination which is currently on hold now till further notice.
