Actions Have Consequences

Not long ago I was telling this to someone who thought can do anything then apologize and be forgiven. These people thing an apology can make it right. Well, it can't. Actions have consequences and everyone needs to learn that. Sometimes our actions are affecting others and the punishment is for all those implicated.

When you see an athlete on the podium receiving a medal you may think that is the reward of his or her work. In a way it is but it's not only his or hers. Behind every athlete there's a group of people who have contributed to the victory and sometime to the frailer as well.

Today I was reading about Sifan Hassan looking for a new trainer. Not knowing her very well I thought she's one of those athletes who are changing their trainers like others are changing clothes but this is not the case.

Sifan Hassan is an Ethiopian-born Dutch double world champion runner. In 2019 she won gold at 10000m and 1500m as well. She was trained by Alberto Salazar, who not long ago was the Nike Oregon Project coach. Unfortunately Salazar was banned for four years, thus Sifan Hassan was left without a coach just a few month before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

It's a very unfortunate case as every trainer has its methods and whatever method is used, time is needed to get results. These plans are made for long terms and here there's no such ting as long term anymore.

Alberto Salazar is an ex marathon runner, he won four gold medals between 1980 and 1982, three of these at the New York City Marathon. He knew exactly what he's playing with.

His ban left the athlete without a trainer and maybe her chance at the Tokyo Olympics are affected by this incident. I truly hope she can find a trainer she can work with. Her manager said they have a few names on their list but they need someone Sifan Hassan can click with. She's 26 years old, still young, she still has a few good years in athletics and Olympic Games are held only every four years. If she misses this, she'll have to wait another four years. She doesn't have any Olympic medals yet, now would be a time to get some.

She'll be fine I think. She was way ahead of the others at the World Championships.

I hope so :)
