Greetings to the Steemit team and the community,
As a Travel Enthusiast, three months ago, I made a collection with all my Travel posts around Sri Lanka. But when I saw the #steem-atlas project by @pennsif, all I thought was wow! All the cool destinations around the world with a detailed experience in one place? Not only that but the level of promotion for Steemit will be huge. So, first hats off to the Steemit Atlas team for this idea, and perfect execution.
So, with the recent announcement from them, I am excited to apply for the role of Atlas Ambassador. As already in love with this initiative, I believe that I can contribute meaningfully in assisting others, promoting it, proofreading, and enhancing the features, especially in Sri Lanka.
A summary of me and my history on Steem
I’m @damithudaya from Sri Lanka, a Civil Engineer in profession and an enthusiastic steemian for almost 04 years now. I joined Steemit in August 2020 in the final year of my university life.
With my dedication throughout my time, I have been blessed to have different roles and responsibilities to contribute positively to the platform. Currently, I am a moderator of STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE and Steem Sri Lanka communities giving my best to keep them clean.
I have served as a Country Representative for Sri Lanka and could help the native steemians to build up from scratch through various initiatives in the Sri Lankan community (Organizer of @sl-charity program). Also, I was a greeter and a curator in the Newcomers' community (Verification of Newcomers' achievements especially in the South Asian region). Apart from that I have the pleasure of working as a community curator in different teams for more than 12 months.

Suggestions to see added to Steem Atlas
Well, already everything looks perfect to me, especially with a user-friendly, and simple yet eye-catching interface. As you have already added the option for Creating posts, I think minor adjustments related to that will also be added soon.
Search option for particular locations - If you have already used the Steem-Atlas, this suggestion is pretty obvious. It takes some time to locate the exact point in the current version, and it's more difficult for the larger countries. So, with this option, it will be more user-friendly and accurate.
Advanced search option for the visitors - This is another important thing I want to see on this project. Rather than a collection of posts country-wise, you can promote this as a travel guide, with an automatic promotion for Steemit. Add an advanced search option with the country (maybe with the city also in the future) and a category of places (hotels & restaurants, parks, mountains, beaches, schools, religious places, etc). So, if someone wants to find out about hotels in Sri Lanka, well you have the filter and posts with real experiences.
I think this can be done after giving the option to choose the category when creating a pin.
- Making a ranking of the contributors - To motivate the contributors, you can monitor the most active contributors all-time, or monthly and create a ranking, or levels. Maybe small prizes for them monthly.
How Steem Atlas Can Benefit the Steem Platform
Well, as I said earlier, there's a collection of places from all around the world, with a detailed experience from real users. This is impressive, as it can be used in the real world. Adding some advanced features this can be promoted as a travel guide with the world. So, what will happen? Automatically Steemit will be promoting, with the other users. We try to spread the word about Steemit, through various programs, and in the Future this will be the major promoting tool when exposed to the real world.
Steemians can make this as a platform, to promote local tourism in your locale, or a business venture as well. I think due to time the team can collaborate with hotels, cafes, etc to promote their ventures for a small fee.
So, as a whole, I guess this program will provide great publicity and promotion to Steemit in a very creative way interacting with the real world.
I have already informed some of my country mates in our groups and through comments about this great initiative. So, I believe I have the full potential to be a part of this initiative.
