The first ATM (Automated Teller Machine) in India was introduced by HSBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) in Mumbai in 1987. However, due to the lack of widespread technology and connectivity at the time, the ATM did not gain much popularity initially. It was only after a few years that other banks started introducing ATMs in India, and the concept gradually caught on.
