Tokens are tokens, are tokens.
Your time and attention now has a value, most of them start incredibly small but it still is more than zero — the value that your time has had in the usual world of social media, i suppress putting a Web 2.0 on this and that the next is 3.0 because I think that’s actually quite limiting to give it a revision number when really we are breaking that convention on a daily basis — we got to evolve past revision numbering.
In the last few weeks I’ve been playing around with pepo, I think I discovered it, hunted it and then it ended up being a campaign on review.hunt.town for a little while to onboard a few users, something stuck with me with however and I started to use it, test it, play with, see what it was all about and what it was trying to achieve.
The main thing that I liked about it was it felt like a crypto version of vine/instagram but with tokens for your time that people could give to you, I guess like our upvote on steem. But more than that it was the way you could buy the token itself, I’ve not seen any other crypto do this so flawlessly yet, you basically buy ‘coins’

Most mobile gamers who buy coins to upgrade their virtual assets in game know how to do this easily, it’s an in-app purchase and the asset upgrades are instantly added — with pepo it works the same way apart from I’m buy pepo coins that give me the ability to give them, distribute them on content creators I like or just hold a balance, if I want to ‘cash’ them out (which I don’t right now) I can turn them into unicorns (kinda cute)
But I’ve noticed an interesting quirk in me that is not currently there in my steem journey and that’s the ability while in an exercise headspace to buy in because I’m ‘enjoying’ the experience. It’s an interesting combinations, I record a video about a thought I have about the crypto space and maybe I’ll get incentivised with that content, maybe not — but the fact that I have the potential of that and a reply is pretty empowering.
Apart from that, while I’m enjoying my time doing that, making a transaction to top up more pepo coins is literally like a thirty second process, even less if you have a biometric device (I have to copy in my apple password!) like literally it takes seconds to get stake in this token economy of OST backed tokens, it’s fast too, in fact, I don’t even get to see the blockchain part, as a newbie, this is huge. We understand we need the coin to do the thing.
We need a very very basic app for steem that does this in app purchase, and quickly. Heck, I’d love a white labelled version of pepo for steem, we have 10k of users here each day spread across 80 odd dapps so we have a trickle of volume on the things that people like, we need a simple call to action on all those platforms to grab the app, and let people drip feed, trickle buy a token that get’s converted on the backend into steem.
What I’m saying is, let me buy that 100 whateverthefuck coins for £0.99 and get the dollar amount at the time of purchase automatically in steem, is that so hard for us to do? I mean why does that not exist, could a steem token do it, do we just need an apple developer account and a couple of devs to pull that together?
All pepo is right now is the ability to record a video and have an audience distribute coins to you based on your content and you do the same — they are going to launch the ability to REPLY which is gonna change the game on pepo because then you have discussions and conversations and threads, just like the old days of Seesmic but this time with crypto payments in the mix — I truly believe that a video conversational platform would be massive for steem, I just don’t have the technical ability to make it happen.
Anyway, I know it sounds like fanboying and shilling, whatever, think what you want the truth is I’ve bought more pepo while I was in a state of physical bliss while exercising than I ever did sitting down at my machine and going through all the steps to do the same for steem — I need to get the same feeling of investment that I get from this mobile app for steem.
Can you imagine if people were just trickle buying like a few dollars worth here and there each day, it’s certainly have the transaction count looking healthy and lots of little transactions start to stack, especially if you turned it into a game/leaderboard experience, heck, turn it into a battle of the dapp factions if you want! :)
