Introduction.
The current A8 has been released back in 2009 so it is starting to get old. Because of that a brand new version is going to be released soon and with it, an all new 2018 Audi S8. Unlike its predecessor, the new version is set to be built on Audi’s MLB Evo platform. This is an aluminum intensive structure which is both stronger and lighter than that of its predecessor. While it is a big step up, it could have been better. The car was actually meant to be built on Porsche’s rear wheel drive architecture but Audi’s CEO changed his mind at the last second. Even so, the MLB Evo still provides plenty of useful features for the S8 but more on that later.
In detail.
The car hasn’t been revealed just yet so things could still change until its official release. However, the new S8 has been spied testing on the open road and it looks quite impressive. The car sports a brand new design and it also seems larger than its predecessor. The price hasn’t been revealed for now but we wouldn’t expect much to change. In fact a base price of around $116,000 is still a real possibility.
The design.
As we said, likely the most dramatic change for the 2018 Audi S8 is the way it looks. Even though its design hasn’t been shown just yet, the camouflaged prototype gives us a pretty good idea about the finished product. It seems the car will get an entirely new front end very similar to what Audi released on their latest concepts. The grille gets wider but slimmer while the headlights get a much more aggressive look. Both the front and rear bumpers seem to better fit the car than before while the wheels seem to stick out a bit more. In fact the entire car seems both wider and lower which is likely due to the new chassis.
