In my recent study of Augustine I have come to see his view of the world and God as saturated with Love (Charitas). All creation exists because of God's love, humanity is designed to love God in return. Hence, Augustine's most famously quoted statement from Confessions: "You have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you."
