State of the Ninja.

Hello hello hello hello hello!

I haven't written a post on the ol AussieNinja Steem blockchain thingamigo for a little bit, so I thought I'd let you know all the happenings. So many happenings.

This photo was taken 6 seconds ago from our kitchen. It is not our best kitchen.
It's actually been like this for a month. It is not our best month.

Basically something like 6 weeks ago we got up on a lazy Sunday, to find water everywhere.
We don't even have a cat, but it was probably this:

Plumber said it was a burst pipe, but I'm just going to keep blaming rogue ninja kittens.
Anyway, we got it fixed semi-immediately (US doesn't seem to do emergency plumbers) with a quick fix... and then came back a few days to do a proper fix. Which was fine... until we relised we were kitchening on a pool of water under the floor. It kinda felt like surfing if there was cheap vinyl covering the entire sea.

Anyway as romantic as a water-kitchen seems, we ripped the floors up, found all the water, called all the people, had to hang in a hotel for a week, and came back to this. Apparently we're getting an insurance cheque... but our first builder quote is for 5 times that amount... so let the negotiations begin...

Since our kitchen exploded, we thought it might be a good time to start looking at building a new house... We had problems buying this house because the house value was apparently too small a percentage of the land value. I dunno, some weird thing. So that could be exciting, and we've talked to all the architects and banks and stuff. It's been exhausting and it's super confusing. Different banks tell us very different things.

Last week, my kidney decided to do this:

What's an update without a seizure hey?

Obviously totally TMI, but since you can no longer see, I thought I'd slip this in there. Wednesday last week, I suddenly had to go to the bathroom between individual hill sprints.. way not cool... and thus started my week of weird. I tried some over the counter stuff, which didn't do anything. You can't see any doctors in America because no one is 'taking on new patients' so I had to go to something called Urgent Care which seems to be like Emergency but with fewer gun shot wounds. Chucked me on antibiotics, the bathroom business cleared up straight away, and the slow crushing back pain started. 3 days of constant couching later; can barely stand, Urgent Care again, the full on stab a bunch of antibiotics for a kidney infection... tell me if I don't get better immediately I have to take myself to hospital. That sounds bad so I get better immediately.

I took my first sick day off in 3 years... gutted.
The company I work for is terrible, so I was hoping to throw 'no time off' in their faces when I inevitably storm out screaming.

I kinda lost my Steem mojo there for a bit... but I'm okay now.

The hotel thing and the kidney thing were super disruptive to ninja training, my Ninja Warrior front end seems so much harder without Curie rewarding amazingly detailed ninja comps, training tips, etc. Narrative might be better for that... the jury is still out on that one. I started a fun little project SteemMoon that was intended to be a collaborative community art project with lots of people adding little pxiel art thingos. I was intending to use @SndBox to help get the word out and hopefully run a weekly competition, but that whole project has pretty much packed up for the short to medium term. I was starting to find weird post payouts, particularly in Dtube, a bit frustrating.

I'm curious about Narrative, it really could fill the hole left by Curie in my heart... but there's a few things that are a bit dodge... it hasn't started yet and there is already a hundred drafts for Nike and Air Jordans, which seems very odd... I bought a couple of niches, but I also accidentally sent some crypto to the exchange's own wallet instead of my own... and have been fighting with them for 3 weeks to try and get it back. Their support team just keeps telling me to wait another day or two....

I think I just really missed the community aspect of the blockchain as almost everyone (myself included) goes around chasing the upvotes... and wasn't sure what my place was. I'm now thinking that Steem works best when you're doing what you want to do, and it doesn't really matter if Steem likes it or not.

So I'm going to continue with my ninja workouts, as much as a record for myself as anything.... but I'm also going to spend time creating tutorials for Javascript and React. I haven't done any coding for 2 months or so... and have forgotten everything... but I constantly constantly have ideas for apps I want to create or things I want to build...

Source

So, I think by doing tutorials of pretty much the steps I think I'll need for my newest Steem project idea.. it'll lock it in and make me all the smarts...

I think that's pretty much it on things I wanted to share to you against your will. Thanks for reading all the words, but also thanks if you just read some of the words, or even if you just looked at the pictures. Absolutely no thanks to you if you never even opened this post. You're the worst.

Have a super mega weekend! I'm literally ordering pizza the second I press POST

Btw, I remember that you said you split time between Australia and the US, but I had no idea you were living in the US. Lea told me the other day and it made so much more sense. I thought you visited her and were going to Austin from Australia as one of the most dedicated Steemians of all time, unless it was easy ninja tactics.

I've been scraggly for years in case you were wondering.

Classic arch-nemesis... always one step ahead...

I've got lots of feet.

I'm now thinking that Steem works best when you're doing what you want to do, and it doesn't really matter if Steem likes it or not.
So I'm going to continue with my ninja workouts, as much as a record for myself as anything....

100% dude. Don't worry about making sure all the haters get a big hard-on for what you're doing, or if they keep on hatin'. You do you, cause it's all we can do.

People don't really like bid-bots and whatnot -- but just because people don't like something, doesn't mean it's not going to exist. I use bidbots primarily (not exclusively) as a means to boost my EXHAUST posts, which adds a fair chunk of value for others to compete for. I've found that if I use @smartmarket / @smartsteem / whatever it's called, I can typically break even after benefactor rewards are shaved off... Then I get to compete for my own boosted rewards.

People think you have to write an essay for every post, or else it's spam. Whatever -- that's their fault for using a front-end that doesn't have any useful filtering for the kind of content they're trying to see.

People may not like it. That's okay. Steem is currently a repository of information that's similar to GitHub, Strava, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Blogger, HearthStone, other games, and way more in the future to come, all rolled into one. Early adopters are suffering through the headache.

Just keep charging forward, and throw down as much of your own personal passion, energy, and interest into your own project. Make it cool for you. Chances are that other people will find it cool too. At the very least, you'll make something that you find cool and useful.

#keephatin'

Also -- Sorry about the kidney thing. Hope you don't have a kidney stone. Heard those are gnarly. Get off the meat! Eat some veg!

Hey hey! Thanks dude!

I'm glad you've said a lot of that, cos my new idea I want to work on for Steem will be primarily targeting Instagramers with easier style posts... aiming more for content consumers than content creators.

The kidney thing seems to be all good now.... I'm still on antibiotics which is making my stomach a little weird, so I can't wait to finish those up, but otherwise I'm 100%. I've barely eaten meat for ages actually. I was on a raw vegan diet for a couple of weeks before our kitchen died.. and in our hotel they only had mystery meat which I wasn't going to touch. Back at home now, with no kitchen, I'm pretty much eating fruit and veggies raw, with peanut butter pita bread to mix it up... honestly, I think my Friday night pizza is the only meat I've eaten in the past two weeks. Not too shabs... I'm sure my midwest work colleagues would have heart attacks at the thought... irony plus.

I try not to sound too cranky or inconsiderate -- but it's the truth. It's a bit of a playground out here right now, so you may as well roll with playground rules

Grrrr. For some reason I must've accidentally unfollowed you ages ago or never did (thinking I did). This explains why I never see you posting. UNTIL NOW. My SP is low, but you're on the radar now once it heals.

If I remember correctly... you unfollowed me when I did 10,000 clean and jerk reps in one day and I scored the 1SBD. Even now I still can't move any of my muscles, but it was worth it.

Oh yeahhhh, thanks for the reminder, back to unfollowing.

I'm now thinking that Steem works best when you're doing what you want to do, and it doesn't really matter if Steem likes it or not.

I keep telling people this but they’re too busy chasing upvotes to listen 😆

That sounds bad so I get better immediately.

🤣

Seriously though that doesn’t sound like fun 😱 glad you got better immediately!

On the Narrative front well I think I’m registered there but I failed at getting interested but that’s a lot to do with if I’m not doing something with something I’ll forget about it or otherwise not feel motivated to do anything with it. I’ve also been playing with hyperspace and while the editor is about a million times better I’m kind of getting a bit bored of most of the content and it feels a bit bit-in-a-good-way centralised. Sticking it out for the moment to see how it develops, I’m still mostly enjoying here 😆

Hmm, what's hyperspace? I tried to Google it but I just kept finding references to the Millennium Falcon. I do like the general idea of Narrative... that the advertising revenue is shared with creators, moderators and owners, but there also seems to be some odd decisions being made, so I'm not banking on it being a game changer.

I'm glad you're enjoying the ol Steem Blockchain, I can say with all of the honesties that my experience would be very very different if you weren't here.

Yet another bloody crypto socnet thing 😆 it’s hyperspace.app from memory, I’m too annoyed to use phone browser right now.

The odd decisions will work for some people. Either that or it will tank. Either way.

Hyperspace is kind of like the bloggy side of steem with a vastly improved editor, communities (“spaces”) built in from the ground up and stuff still developing. Getting a space is hard work though (be a lot easier if you buy in as due to the inflation by the time you’ve earned enough through posting/curation price probably went up) and the space is probably what you want for your grand schemes.

I think they’re trying to be somewhat distributed in management as each space kind of manages itself but currently it’s not always “worthwhile” to post in an unverified space and from what I’ve read getting verified is arduous.

And currently you can only post in one space at a time which I find infuriating 😆 it’s an oft-requested feature to be able to post to multiple spaces but then they need to manage how the feed works as currently the feed is space-centric rather than user-centric.

The system is interesting and I think probably worth at least looking into, I don’t know whether my boredom stems from what’s currently being posted or just weariness in general 😆

Aww that’s really nice of you to say 😄 though I think the only major difference is you wouldn’t have Ninjaroo or my incessant comment spam 🤣 coz everyone loves yoooouuuuuuuuuuuu.

Wilderness man! That is some scraggle. Take care - hopefully the kidneys come right quickly.

Thanks dude!
The kidneys are actually 100% now... I've still got a week of antibiotics left, I'll be much happier when they're done, but otherwise I'm as right as rain. Went snowboarding yesterday, crushed it.

No plumbers, no doctors... Sounds great :-/ Damn, that doesn't sound like the best month for you indeed. Bad things always seem to come together, right? I really hope your health is fixed first, then your kitchen (can't eat pizza for months!), and then you find your place back on Steem again :-) I looked into Narrative at some point, seems to be a layer on top of Medium, curious where it goes :-) Cheers!

Oh yeah, honestly, through-out my entire life, everything always works out. It's kinda crazy, but nothing bad has happened that's stayed bad... and all of these things are totally, totally, totally super mega fixable.

Thanks for commenting on my post, I was super excited to see your name pop up!

Hehe - that's the right way to look at life! Most things are fixable, and most things are temporary :-)

Thanks for commenting on my post, I was super excited to see your name pop up!

I had no idea my name could have that effect on people :D I'll make sure to do it more often! ;-)

First of all, I hope you enjoyed your pizza! Pizza can make any day better.

So bummed for you to read about your disastrous week!! Uuugh! sounds horrible, uncomfortable and expensive. :(

On a random side note - have you ever thought about either comedy writing or stand up comedy? I was somehow laughing my way through this entire post - even though you were talking about super not-fun things. You've got a great writing style that infuses a lot of humor!

It was soooooo good!
I've been known to smash out a whole pizza in one sitting... but I was very good on Friday and only ate a chunk so that I'd even have some cold pizza amazingness on Saturday. I've honestly been living mostly on fruit and peanut butter sandwiches, so eating something actually hot was such a joy.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? No... A lot of comedians say that they're not that funny in person or off the cuff, but their act is something meticulously crafted... whereas I'm the opposite, I can be randomly funny but when I actually intentional try... well then it's all awksville. Thank you though for the compliment, that's pretty huge coming from a content creating superstar.
