Sydney Tower is a landmark that rises far above the city skyline. The tower is open to the public, and is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the city. Sydney's tallest free-standing construction, the Sydney Tower, is the second tallest in Australia. It is also the second tallest scrutiny tower in the Southern Hemisphere. From high up in the "eye" visitors are offered amazing 360 degree views over the city. The tower is as much an engineering marvel as it is an architectural piece. Unique engineering solutions were applied during construction to manage the effects of wind, the anchoring of the structure and the lifting of the pieces to form it. In 2004 Sydney Tower was nominated to be put on the New South Wales State Heritage Register for rare technical achievement.
