Victoria Solar Rebates Program

The Government of Victoria Solar Homes Rebate Program is helping eligible Victorian households to take charge of their power bills by providing a rebate of up to $1,888 for solar panel (PV) systems for owner-occupied properties. An eligible household can apply for an interest-free loan of the rebate amount i.e. 1888$. The loan amount needs to be paid pack over the four years.

Interest-free Loans For Solar Panel (PV) Systems

Eligible households may also apply for an interest-free loan equivalent to their rebate to further lower the upfront cost of solar panel (PV) systems. Such loans are not available for
solar hot water or solar batteries.

If the solar system costs less than $3,776, the homeowner/renter does not need to pay any upfront cost. For example, your rebate amount is $1,888 and the loan amount will be the same i.e. $1,888. In order to pay no upfront cost, your solar system should be priced below 3,776$ ( 1888$ rebate amount + 1888$ loan amount).

Moreover, the solar system installed under the Victoria solar rebate program will need to save you more than $1,888 in energy costs over the life of the four-year loan.

Who are eligible for the Solar rebates?

Any Victorian household is eligible to receive a rebate for installing a solar PV system if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • they are the owner-occupier of the property

  • the owners have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per year (based on last year’s Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment)

  • it is an existing property, valued at under $3 million

  • they do not have an existing solar PV system*

  • No-interest loan amount (paid to the solar provider) to be re-paid by the householder over 4 years

Your authorized solar retailer is obligated to provide visibility of the expected savings. This information will be entered by the authorized solar retailer into the Solar Victoria Portal and used to determine your eligibility for a loan.

How Do I Obtain A Quote & Apply For Eligibility

First, you need to find and contact an approved solar retailer to get a quote. The solar retailer will then upload the quote to the Solar Victoria site, which will check your eligibility status against the documents submitted by you.

An eligibility number will be given to you upon the successful submission of the application. You need to provide the eligibility number to your installer to go ahead with solar system installation. The installation can not continue without this eligibility number.

Solar Battery Rebate

The Victoria Solar Homes program is supporting eligible Victorian households to install a solar battery to compliment an existing solar PV system, by providing a discount up to $4838. Installing a battery can help typical households save on their energy costs.

Who are eligible for the Victorian Government’s home battery rebate?

Victorian households are eligible to receive a battery rebate under the Program if the property:

  • Owners have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per annum (based on last year’s Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment (NOA))

  • Is an existing property, valued at under $3 million

  • Already has a solar PV system installed with a nameplate rating equal to or greater than 5 kW
