The water is still, the air is crisp and the sky is still blue. Autumn is probably a perfect time to visit Castlemain in Williamstown.
Commissioned in 1942, Castlemaine was in use during World War 2 along the waters of New Guinea and Timor. The Castlemaine was in service till 1945. Castlemain was escorting Period and James Cook along the Australian waters when they were attacked by Japanese airplanes. Four crew members were killed in the attack.
Castlemain was given to Maritime Trust of Australia to convert the ship into a museum and war memorial. She is docked at Williamstown and guests can view the insides of the ship.
