Surinder Kumar | Entrepreneur

The recipes have been passed on for four generations, and Surinder Kumar, is elated that he will have the opportunity to pass on his knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine to his sons. “We are on the cusp of being a five-generation business venture,” says Surinder, who owns Royal Tandoori restaurant in Adelaide, which serves Indian food. “That is how I define growth,” he adds.

Surinder migrated to Australia in 1988. In the three decades he has lived here, the entrepreneur says he loves the vibrant culture of the country. His first job on arrival in Australia from Singapore was to supply frozen Indian food like curries and rice to chains like Coles and Woolys.

“Basically starting a business and running it successfully, I have learned that sustainability is the key,” he says. Surinder is proud that his restaurant can rustle up tailor-made menus of any kind and has even served more than 30,000 people at one time. “We also do a lot of charity within the Indian community,” he says.
