Jay Vasani | Entrepreneur
Six years and 42 Vodafone stores later, the words of American statesman Colin Powell still echo in Jay Vasani’s ears—‘There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure’. It helped him gather the courage in 2012 to set up his first Vodaphone store in Australia and has kept him going all these years.
Jay arrived in Australia in April 2009, the cultural diversity of the country luring him in. He started life in his new country as a World Vision sales representative before venturing into the world of entrepreneurship.
“Being an Indian Australian entrepreneur gives me a sense of achievement. I love it when my family, friends and other business associates acknowledge and appreciate me as an Indian businessman,” says Jay.
“I commenced my business in 2012 buying a couple of Vodafone stores in Adelaide with a view to expand it across South Australia. I believe in diversifying my investments and hence have also plunged into supermarket giant IGA having two stores in Western Australia. Another venture that I have recently started is land development in South Australia,” says the businessman.
The single most important business move, says Jay, was when he decided to acquire Vodafone stores in Western Australia.
“Growth to me is not just increasing numbers in terms of number of stores or in dollar amounts. It is a very broad term that adds value not only to the organisation but also to the people associated with the organisation and wider economy,” he says.
