As footy seasons 2019 kicks-off, a footy fan has taken the initiative to spread the sport to the interiors of India. Australian Footy can be easily confused with rugby by many, and that’s why Sonam Verma, who is the AFL Multicultural Brand Ambassador, decided to explain the game to school children in India.

Sonam, who is a professional henna artist and runs a very successful business in Melbourne—Sonam’s Mehendi—belongs to Uttar Pradesh, the most populated state of India. During her recent visit to India, she was invited as a guest to the one of the biggest schools in the area to speak with students and motivate them towards a career. Sonam used sports as the ice-breaker spoke to them about Australian sports and mainly AFL. The students were excited to know that AFL is more popular than cricket in Australia and there are multiple AFL clubs. Sonam also played a mock game of AFL with them. A footy ball was gifted to the school.
