Finalists for the Style Icon 2019 award
Meena Moripalli is a Melbourne-based fashion stylist and fashion choreographer. She has worked with top Australian retail fashion labels in the past and done fashion shows as well. She now takes classes on modeling. “I believe in following one’s passion and that is why I am working in fashion choreography. Whether it is ramp walks or shoots, I believe there is so much depth of knowledge in fashion. Fashion and styling can make women bold and confident. And that’s what I aim to do,” she says.
If style is about self-expression and attitude then Madhu Kapoor epitomises the true essence of a style icon. Her unique takes on fashion and presentation embodies her sense of individuality.
Shilpa Sharlene Kumar, a fighter since birth, faced a host of medical complications but came out of those with her determination and family support. She was crowned Miss Gorgeous and Miss Courageous at the Multicultural International Quest Beauty Pageant 2017, and is currently the Youth Ambassador for special kids/youths of a non-profit organisation called the Australian Indo-Fijian Association of Victoria Incorporated, through which she inspires people with disability to get involved in community events and activities.
Finalists for the Woman Entrepreneur 2019 award
Mother of two, Pallavi Pratap juggles her IT job as well as her hair and beauty salon Palz House of Style. “Everything I have learned is by following my mother’s footsteps. She is a super woman,” says Pallavi, who set up her salon when she had her first child.
Aviti Sharma aka MC Aviti embodies the core elements of entrepreneurship which include doses of bold confidence, unending persistence, and burning ambition. She is an astute entrepreneur with an eye for new startup business opportunities whilst possessing the drive and ability to fructify them. No doubt her legal acumen comes in handy, acquired during her tenure as a litigator in the bustling courts of Delhi. She has risen to prominence in Melbourne by nurturing several avatars which include being the city’s premier emcee, hosting many of its biggest events. Aviti is also a model with acting credits to her name.
An entrepreneur operating a migration consulting practice Migration and Education Experts, Chamanpreet completed her MBA in India, where she was awarded a gold medal and Ratan Tata Scholarship for her academic performance. She then embarked on her corporate journey in 2005 as an HR Consultant for Ma Foi. She has held various senior management and leadership positions in medium to large scale businesses in Australia and India including roles with Allianz, Super Retail Group, and Victorian Building Authority.
Finalists for the Woman Influencer 2019 award
Wida Tauseef is the author of two children’s fiction books and is an accomplished and published poet. She is also a community advocate, a beauty pageant runner-up, a journalist and budding entrepreneur. In addition to all of this, she has won awards and received nominations for her contribution towards peace and community.
Leena Vellu is a proud member of the Australian Indo Fijian Association of Victoria and in a Vice President Position. “We deliver events, educational programs and other relevant events or programs to every community, our youth, our special needs children and adults and seniors,” she says. For 15 years, Leena has been working with high risk young individuals, a role that allows her to give back to the community.
Computer engineer Jiwanpreet moved to Melbourne in December 2015—“I never thought I would be welcomed so dearly in a new land”, she says. Jiwanpreet, now a registered migration agent by profession and writer by passion works with Anmol-Jiwan Charitable Society in rehabilitating children with criminal tendencies. She completed her certification in Australian migration law in 2016 and since then has been working closely with domestic visa violence cases and detention cases related to migration law. “Give yourself a chance to explore your potential, your ability and come up as fighter, not as a sufferer,” says Jiwanpreet.
