We didn’t have to travel to Southern California to experience the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood dance party. The Collingwood Town Hall in Abbotsford, just a couple of kilometres east of Melbourne Central Business District dazzled on Saturday, 12 May, with around 400 Melbourne Konkans of all ages swaying to the live beats of Shezwan SOS, the musical band in attendance for the evening.
This year’s annual dinner dance under the patronage of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) sparkled with the theme Hollywood Style May Ball. Ladies dressed in fashionable gowns accompanied with stylish clutch bags stole the show, the men not far behind with elegant black suits looking sharp with black bows/ties. It was a sight to behold!
From a rousing welcome at the entrance by smartly dressed youngsters, the perfect backdrop for a fun-filled photo opportunity, the walking on the red carpet that made every guest feel like a superstar to setting foot into the stunning ball room, the beams of glittering ball lights with myriad spots of light spinning around the walls and the star-studded movie inspired table decorations, this year’s gala dinner dance had it all. The hall filled to the brim, its ambience was breathtaking!
The band ‘Shezwan SOS’ kept everyone present swinging non-stop on their feet for their rhythmical mix of rock and roll, jive, modern pop, Bollywood and Konkani hits. With the fine mix of mixes and remixes, the audience wouldn’t stop asking and demanding for more and more! At its high point, the ‘Baila’ went overtime with the dance floor overflowing to the hilt.
There were spot prizes, drinks, sumptuous starters, delicious dinner and mouth-watering desserts that delighted all. The raffle was drawn and gifts were presented to the lucky winners of the day to complete the impressive night.
The great philosopher Plato once said, ‘Music gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.’ With the freezing winter around the corner, this was a unique way of warming ourselves—meeting, greeting, chatting and dancing our hearts out with fellow Mangalorean Konkans who have made this most liveable city on earth Melbourne, their home.
MKC is a registered association based in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. It welcomes all Konkans residing in Melbourne to be a part of this growing community. MKC committee members can be contacted by [email protected] or via logging into Facebook @ http://www.facebook.com/MelbourneKonkanCommunity
