Suppressing populist authoritarianism.

There are really only two models I know of for suppressing authoritarian movements. One is the German model, which basically uses the state to directly silence advocates of authoritarianism.

The other is the American model, developing as we speak, which uses market forces and decentralized, voluntary and peaceful action.

America is on the cusp of showing the world how a mature, free society can confront the existential threat of populist authoritarians without investing the state with the dangerous power to regulate speech.

I hope it works, and I'm optimistic that it will. Those who oppose the American model must by process of elimination favor either cohabitation with authoritarian populists, or the German model of state suppression.

I prefer decentralized, voluntary action as the best tool for the job, and I think America is up to the task.
